I replaced the origial crystal, but still have the origial one. The old one was stratched. I didn't know!!

Yes, thats the magic of the old plexi-glass. They are scratch magnets.

You can still find the correct new old stock plexiglass crystals. The watch still looks great for its age. Its cool it still has the folded link bracelet.

Why can't I find any any watches on the internet that has the same red writing? Mine doesn't have the 2000 written on it.

Have you taken bracelet off and looked at case sides yet?? Again-I recommend you take it to someone like Andrew Shear and see what he has to say as he is in NY.

I had the bracelet off and it had the serial number on it.

I became suspect when the jeweler offered me $5,000 for the watch. I had no idea. I wasn't even sure it was real at the time.

Take your time and find someone who knows about vintage pieces. Have it looked at in detail. It may cost you a couple of dollars but maybe well worth the investment. Best of luck and congrats

Thanks to everyone who responded, but I still don't have any answer to me original question!! My watch doesn't have the red 2000 written on the second line. I can't even find a picture of it. Can anyone help???

The pointed crown guards bothers me, were double reds known to ever have them?

The rehaut looks off, but with a replacement crystal, i'm thrown off. Dial/hand patina don't match... Doesnt tell us much though.

Take the case back off, that would bring this to a head.

Go over your watch’s dial in detail checking the fonts and spacing.. If it matches these pics, you might have made the find of the year. Sounds too good to be true. Oh and that crystal does not look good,..how did it get fitted on there,, surprised it fit?

you can try yourself, get a rubber glove or rubber band , press hard against the case back and turn to unscrew.

i hope you got a real one!
btw, what did the person say who switched the crystal for you?

Your watch doesn't appear to have a gas escape valve on the non-crown side of the case, but I understand that not all early Sea-Dwellers do. Also, if the dial and hand patinas don't match, probably one is a replacement. The next steps are to open the case back to see the movement and pop off the bracelet to see the engravings between the lugs. Since this might be genuine, I wouldn't try these things myself unless you have experience, as you might damage the watch. Take it in to show Andrew as Ken suggests. And good luck!

" Prototype No valve Double Red Rolex, Oyster Perpetual Date, "Sea Dweller Submariner" without helium escape valve,2000ft./610m, Superaltive Chronometer, Officially Certified, ref 1665. Made in 1967"--- going on to state " this prototype version was the forerunner to the Sea Dweller 2000's. These prototype Sea-Dwellers were produced in a small batch in 1967. They ere produced without a helium escape valve and in a thinner case and without engravings on the back. They were presented to the world's leading deep sea divers for testing and reporting on the watches dependability on deep sea dives. It is belived that only 30 Rolex Sea Dweller cases were produced without the gas escape valve. Most of these prototypes did not survive decompressions and the gas escape valve which were already fitted to early Submariners ref. 5513 and 5514 were required for the Sea Dweller. The present watch is one of the first to be produced by Rolex Geneve and is extremely rare.
