Don't try ---leave it and let watchmaker do that. You need proper tools......

Hi Jeann, you're in New York, I'm just round the corner in Stockholm so pop the watch into a jiffy bag an send it over. I'll get that sticky case back of for you in no time

Ok, here are some poor pictures of the watch without the band.
It has the serial number on one side and 1665 written on the other side. Jeanne |

Congrats
If this is legit, you have the find of the century.
With that said, I would advice you to be really careful with this. DO NOT just send the watch without proper insurance. Also, if you must, take the watch to a knowledgeable Rolex collector, and not just a "jeweler" or a "reseller of vintage watches" you'd be taken for sure. Never leave the watch out of sight ! If you're any where near Ken R ( SteelerFan1965 ), I suggest you contact him first before doing anything. Ken is a honorable guy and he will steer you to the right direction. |

don't let it out of your sight (literally). don't leave it at home alone. once people around you get wind of what's going on, someone is going to break into your place and take it.

I am not experieced with watches. What is a conservative amount that this watch is worth? One person said that it sold for over $200K, but thats ridiculous.

It could be another model & yours a replacement dial. Still a very valuable dial, I'd imagine!! I'd also talk to Bob about switching back to a plastic crystal. Have heard that the sapphires don't fit the vintages well enough and may compromise waterproofness. You don't want to damage that dial! Good luck. Please do keep us posted. As you can see, your thread has generated a lot of interest & good discussion! |

Jeanne, I did not mean to scare you by posting the info I did, From time to time I use previous auction info when I am looking for a watch and remembered something about caseback Sea Dwellers without lettering so when I saw your post and the fact that your watch had no HEV or lettering I started looking. You have received very good advice from members here far more knowledgeable than I would ever hope to be and hope it is the "real deal". Values can be very subjective and 2008 was a very good year!
GOOD LUCK R (and here I was excited when I found a meters first 5513 cheap!!) |

Man, I sure hope it's genuine, if so then it must be the deal of the century. as Roger said above, I was also happy when I got a $500 discount on my 1680 from the seller.

*caution*
Think you may have struck gold here. Take it from the people on here telling you to take it to an expert ....do not post it anywhere. I dont have personal experience with any of the people on here posting their advice but i would not take any risks by sending it anywhere unless you are with it.
good luck and i hope it is what it is!! |

Jeanne--I would be really careful taking it to an RSC--especially if you plan on servicing it. I would personally never service a vintage watch at an RSC. If you are going to service it--send it to Bob Ridley!!!
