1680 insert
Hi,
I’m brand new to this forum & have questions which seek some guidance. I’m considering to purchase this 1680 but want to check If this insert is a serviced or a so-called MK4 (MK4 thin font flat 4 76-88) Any advice would be much appreciated Best, Kris |

Hi,
To me 1976 is definitely too early for this one. I would very roughly say 1985-1990 and would be happy to hear from the more experienced guys about their opinion. Kind regards, |

The insert is a later replacement.

It's a 5513 insert found during the 1980s and maybe it was used as a service replacement too!

I'd leave it as is. An after market "pearl" won't look right and will lower the value. I don't believe Rolex via AD or service center will replace the pearl part of the bezel insert on older Submariners (pre-ceramic). You may have to replace the bezel insert, this would be expensive and you would have a service insert.

You can leave as-is or buy a vintage pearl, they usually sell for $250-$300. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

They at least used to up until about last year. I had a luminova pearl inserted into the original bezel insert of my -78 1680 at my AD, they charged me 50$ in total for it.
