Rolex Caribbean bundling

Been to 4 different Rolex dealers over the course of this year in the Caribbean

Each one has always had some watches in the back

Each one has told me I can have one if I buy some jewellery

Each one has negotiated re how much jewellery I need to spend to buy the watch

It’s a straightforward transaction for them

But question is what would happen if I bought the watch and took the jewellery back for a refund the next day and played them at their own game?!

Call and ask them?

It's all the same game, whether it be the Caribbean, London or New York.

I was in the Caribbean last week, wife wants a TT Datejust so I tried to 'bundle' that in along with a diamond bracelet to get access to a GMT as well... no interest from the AD whatsoever. We walked, and I'm sure he could care less about losing a good sale.

Given this experience, I'm not sure how much jewelry you would have to buy - but I'll bet they wouldn't take a return...

They'd probably say you knew what the deal was and no refunds in so many words. I'll bet they have been through this before. I wonder if you paid with a credit card if you'd have any recourse. I'd probably pass unless I wanted the jewelry or sell it at a loss. Either way it could get ugly.

Somebody on the forum did that a couple months ago I think.

He was successful, but the AD wasn’t too excited about that.

I’m going to guess they’re not idiots and would stamp final sale and no returns on the receipt. You would have an uphill battle and deservedly so. Once you shake hands a deal is a deal especially when they are being upfront about it.

I always thought watches and jewelry were not refundable... at best you would get "store credit" with them to use on something else.

Why even go through those petty maneuvers....would consider this kind of transaction a frivolous and total waste of time.....nothing slick about it...

When I was in Grand Caymen recently, a sale associate at the Rolex AD told me they keep the "hot" models in the safe for their best repeat customers and casual drop-in customers (like myself) would never see them.

It would all be in the fine print, but I’m certain they wouldn’t provide a refund on the jewelry.

I feel like that's sacrificing your word, reputation, honor (whatever you want to call it) for a SS Rolex.

Is this what we've come to?.... I hope not

I’m not in the Caribbean, but my Rolex dealer does not accept returns. You are informed at the time of the sale that once the watch is sized, stickers removed, and your name on the warranty card, it’s your’s period. I would think most US dealers are the same.

Return for exchange but not a refund would be my guess.

My AD is a boutique, no jewelry. But I would imagine the Caribbean store described would also disallow returning “half” of your bundled purchase.

They’d accept the refund of the whole deal and you’d lose the GMT

I agree why not just buy what you want on the secondary market and forget about this trying to get over on the AD with a return which they probably won't take back anyway.

Absolutely right. Even if it worked, it would be gauche. tacky, bad form, call it what you will. Handshake or not, a deal is a deal where I come from. Compromising one's values to, of all things-save a buck-is beyond redemption.
I'm sure the OP is just thinking out loud so obviously I'm not judging him. In fact it would be great turning the tables on the greedy AD, but not that way.

So it's straightforward and a game? You're aware that you don't have to play, right?

Is this why I could not locate a 18k Submariner? Went to 3 ADs and when I asked they basically ignored me.

Luckily I found it online that night and had it in my hands 48 hours later.

Final sale, no returns on the jewellery.
If you accept the deal, stick by the deal and be a man of your word. A deal is a deal.
