Thoughts on 5040G

Hi all,

I’ve recently taken an interest in the 5040G and would like to get your thoughts about this particular reference. In particular, its suitability as a casual/daily piece and service considerations. I find it looks really beautiful but am also thinking that it may prove to be “boring” over time. I may also trade in my 5146G for this (adding cash of course).

Any experiences from owners or those who have handled this reference would be much appreciated. I am considering the white dial reference as shown below:

Love it in pics. Never tried it on. If you didn’t get bored of a 5146 quickly I’d think this should be same or better. We all get bored of almost every watch eventually.

Pateks with a tonneau shaped case are not very popular. So you can often get them for a better price than their round-case counterpart.

The 5040 has the same 240Q movement that is present in the 3940, 5140, 5940 and 5327 PCs. It is a solid movement. However since the 5040 has been discontinued for a while, you always have to consider the fact that the watch may need a servicing when purchasing pre-owned.

If you like the watch, it is probably a good pick up at a reasonable price for a Patek perpetual calendar.

I believe they also came with an extra solid case back, so I would ask the seller if the watch comes with a 2nd caseback.

Mid-30’s. I don’t know if it is appropriate to post the price, mods please delete if so.

It's a great watch. White or Black dial! Love the Black personally. As a vintage guy, the case is reminiscent of day gone by.

The 240Q is a beautiful movement!

They should be a bit less than round PC. Make sure you get both the solid gold caseback and the sapphire caseback!!
