RM11-03 Mclaren

Just got this, a Richard Mille RM11-03 Mclaren that was announced at the Geneva auto show. Watch is out of 500 and can only be obtained by purchasing a Mclaren as well. What are your thoughts?

That look is starting to feel really dated in my opinion.

Looks even worse in this pic than the press pics from the motor show. I understand all the hi-tech frou frou about layering carbon and orange quartz, but if the end result is this ugly, I don't get the point.

BTW, the watch is only reserved for those who have purchased a McLaren Senna, which is why the watch has a run of 500 (so that first dibs on each watch goes to the McLaren Senna owner with the same car serial number). Not sure what they'll do with all the watches that aren't taken.

correct, but as of now they have stated the only way to get the watch is to get the car. I wonder if RM has even completed 500 of the watches, or will only sell them per order. It is an unusual ordeal because they are offering matching watch numbers to car numbers, so my thought is that they aren't making these in any particular order. who knows.

a watch to match...

If I had an orange Senna, guess that's the watch to wear when I drive it

I love RM, they make the best luxury sportswatches. They are innovative and pushes limits at no matter the cost. I do get that the design is not for everyone though but they are not trying to make traditional watches.

Is this also a hybrid?

I mean does it have a battery operated LCD date window in addition to a mechanical movement?

And do you know how this display window functions?

Where you see a lcd? It's a mechanical date like on ALS watches... and the little one is month indicator.

Buyers of the car have right of refusal to purchase the watch at retail. I am not sure how many cars are being made, but I believe the number is 200-250.

The remaining pieces are being produced and sold through the boutiques. In person the watch is much nicer than any photo. In fact, I agree with most posts that the photos make the watch look rather terrible.

What I don’t understand is how the secondary asking price of the watch is well north of 300k. It’s an edition of 500, which is an awful lot in the RM world. I can’t help but see the price of this piece crashing and as they are all eventually distributed (over two years). Couple that with a new McLaren piece and———-well, time will tell!
