I did the same thing and tried to push it back in several times. No damage to the movement.

UPDATE: Watch needs a complete service which will run me over $1,000 including shipping. They have quoted me 7 weeks for the job.

Sorry, still unclear what you are saying, OP.

Is AP requiring you to get a full service if you want the crown fixed? Or did your jamming the crown back in damage the watch? Or are you just choosing to get a full service because the out of warranty repair would already cost, say, $400, or you could just get it repaired if you opt for the full service (for which it may be due) for a total of around $1000? Or something else?

Wow, what’s entailed in the complete service?

They stated that the watch needed a complete service after reviewing it but did not specify if it was due to the crown stem issue or just because of time/usage... I’ll send them an email to confirm this.

Complete service includes:

“A complete maintenance service includes the disassembly of the watch, cleaning all components, replacing any components that don’t meet specifications, re-assembly and quality control testing.

The following parts are always replaced – gaskets and crowns.”

UPDATE: This is what they replied.

“Yes it is required as we don’t do a partial service. The watch also has oils that are drying and need to be replaced.”

What’s with the shades? I’ve never seen a real watchmaker wearing them, while working on a watch.

That’s not great, if the watch is otherwise performing fine. How old is it and how long has it been since last service?

Sounds like “oils are drying” is boilerplate text supporting the need for regular servicing, not actual analysis of your watch movement.

The guy in the video? He’s not a watchmaker, and he’s not working on a watch.

Thats a shame they haven't offered a partial service, which they certainly do do. I guess what they are saying is they won't do a partial service to repair this type of damage. When was the watch last serviced, or if new, when was it purchased ?

He is a grey dealer based in Miami, the shades are just for fun for his you tube videos.

Same happened to me. Crown came off (caliber 3120) and a full service was needed. 870 EUR. The previous complete service was exactly 5 years before.

Where in the thread does it say it's been just past 3 years?

My watch was purchased in 2013 so it is about 5 years old. I don’t wear it much though due to heavy rotation so I am a bit disappointed. But it seems to happen with all watches at some point. My IWC Ingenieur had a loose screw out of nowhere, my PAM 233 got hour hand stuck, etc etc etc... and none of these watches are worn that much.

I’ve been wearing watches since I was 15. I’m now 75. Never had a watch stem pull out in 60 years. I wear and have worn many top brands. My daily is a PP Neptune, rotated with a Calatrava and my AP royal oak. Rolexes and others sit for most part. My 2 cents worth.

UPDATE: Was quoted 6-8 weeks but actual turnaround was less than 4 weeks. Communication, packaging (quite impressive actually), quality of work... everything was perfect. Can’t say enough good things about the Clearwater FL after service team. Another great experience.
