I think some of the negative responses are a bit histrionic, but I don't like modern Tudor's use of the Snowflake hand either.

There are some references that suit it–among the modern watches, this is the Pelagos line and perhaps the 41mm Black Bay since that's sort of a 'best of' collection of Tudor Submariner features.

The hand is really a 1970s element (I know it was introduced in the late 60s) which makes it an awful pairing with watches that are otherwise built around 50s or 60s design.

On the chronos, it's absurd, on the 54 it's ghastly.

Looks good on Pelagos. Not my cup of tea on black bay but gmt just about ok. Though woid prefer merc hands on that and the pro.

Oh, and cut the thickness and add t fit all round.

It’s like car manufacturers deliberately throttling performance so next gen version has extra 10hp.

I thought the look was pretty jarring when I first saw it, but over the years, I've grown accustomed to it and I think it fits my BB36 very well.

Mercedes hands Vs Snow flake

Now after getting the BB Pro, and having had dozens of Rolex Mercedes hour hands, the Snowflake has better lume for me.

So bowing to pressure from watch forums Tudor retires the snowflake hand. Resale prices goes way up. People always want what they can’t have.

I actually like the snowflake hands on the BB36 better than the mercedes hands on the Explorer 1. Snowflakes actually make it easier to tell time for old eyes.

Interesting short article and video clip here showing how the Snowflake hand is made: https://www.tudorwatch.com/en/tudor-...e-how-of-hands

Can't stand the snowflake hand, or the fake rivets either.

The snowflake on the hour hand looks dumb. Just looks like it got chopped off on the end and kinda looks like it got butchered up.

However, the snowflake on the seconds and GMT hands on the Tudor BB Pro looks nice as it finishes into a pointy end.

I didn’t like snowflakes until I owned a Tudor. Now I absolutely love them and quite possibly more than Mercedes hands.

If it wasn't for that I would probably have there intire catalog in my collection by now. Don't ask what I really think about that hour hand. I mean really. A definite wtf moment in history.

But honestly, it looks totally out of place, kills the symmetry of the dial lay out. The one thing that obviously does not belong.

Just my 2C of course. Doesn't amount to much.
Ditto here.
I cannot stand that blob on the end.

Snowflake looks good on the Pelagos.

When it's used on virtually every Tudor, even their Chrono, it's very out of place. The blob on the ends up obscuring the dial.

But that will never change. Plus they have these other cool design 'features':
- Faux patina
- Faux rivets
- Fat cases

IMO it's a deliberate way to sabotage the Tudor catalog. Must not let people confuse it with Rolex!

I'm not a fan of the snowflakes so it would be one sided.

Me neither. I have no issue with them at all.

In fact, the ONLY hands I can think of that I have an issue with is Mercedes hands on anything OTHER than a Rolex.

Well there’s some logic in the differences - read on for some 101.

The 24-hr hand & seconds hand have a square detail - not the same as the hour hand for a reason. The hour hand on the other hand (pun intended) has a large angular tip to be easily distinguished in the daytime or nighttime (at night there’s a larger area for lume).

Due to their distinctly different shapes, the hands could immediately be identified from one another. Because of this “no two alike” feature in Tudor’s Sub way back in the mid-Fifties, the moniker “snowflake” was born.

That which some call odd has been a hallmark of the brand for decades.

I'm not a fan of the snowflake hands. To me, they look cheap and uninspired.

No, but otherwise great looking watch. But I can't buy it with those hands. Just ugly, can't move forward on it.

Legibility is better, especially in lower light, with the snowflake hands. Aesthetically I think the mercedes hands are a little more pleasing to the eyes. I appreciate both.
