Super Cases

Why did the 116610 Submariner get a lot of criticism for having a super case with the thick broad lugs when the BLRO and BLNR still have the same super case and haven’t had criticism? Why only the old Sub, especially since the new one ‘fixed’ the issue?

It’s not the same case, that’s why.

I thought it was. They’re very similar at least!

They are similar, but the Sub is slightly different.

Not the same case AND the real problem with the 11 series Sub is how tapered the bracelet was compared to the case. Poor proportions.

The GMTs do not have that extreme disconnection between case and bracelet.

It’s time that the GMTs are updated and they fix the case dimensions

Those fat lugs were an eye sore when I saw an exhibition BLNR in person for the first time last year. Rolex definitely needs to slim them down.

Wasn't the case updated in 2019 when it got the new movement?

I believe the case was unchanged.

Hotly debated. No definitive answer….that I’m aware of.

Yes, Rolex says they refined the geometry of the lugs, for having had both, it’s practically indistinguishable. They look and feel exactly the same.

What’s not the same though is the 11 series Sub case, that has entirely different proportions.

The GMT case was bad compared to the five digit watches, but it still seemed to be within the margin of error. The SubC case was hideously wide. Made the watch look like a square. The new Sub helps a bit but it’s still not totally fixed. It’s a shame they didn’t just use the 116600 case, which is still their best attempt to date at a ceramic Submariner.

To my eyes, the super case on the GMT, specifically the fat lugs, look decent on the jubilee bracelet but not so much on the oyster bracelet

Imagine how difficult the 116610 Subs would have been to get at MSRP if they hadn't attracted so much criticism!

The 11 series Subs and 12 series GMT Masters don't look so different or measure so different in the lugs, but small differences make all the difference. And the bracelet from the 11 Series Sub Date looks and feels all wrong on the 126710BLRO. I tried it and much to my surprise it just didn't work.

The current GMT line-up has been extremely popular. I guess the lugs are a non-issue to most buyers.

I love mine too. It’s my favorite watch. Tremendous wrist presence. I have never felt compelled to trade mine in for a 12.

Can you link to where Rolex said this please?

The GMT and fat boy sub both work in my opinion. Beautiful watches!

I have the 11 series Sub and the BLRO. Both cases look the same to me. Funny how the 11 series Sub is criticized yet most people love the Hulk.

The GMTs 100% have the big lugs super case. After I got the 12Sub, couldn’t hang onto the BLNR. All I saw was lugs. New case coming soon.

TBH before this forum I thought they looked pretty much the same. I’d bet that most people aside from those on this forum won’t know the difference until you explained in detail to them.

I’m about to pull the trigger on a 11 series Sub ND if I can get the right price with a grey. The 12 series doesn’t command that much extra premium to me. Also something about the 12 series bracelet ….

I feel the same about mine. I wish the lugs were slimmer but I don't want a 12 series. I am very happy with my sub.

I love the super case on the BLNR. Looks more sporty than the 41 mm sub.
