Is it possible for a datejust from 1963 to have "quick set" date function?

Hello folks!

I wanted to buy my wife a "birth year" Rolex.

And so I dd, from crown & caliber.

REF. # 69173, Serial # is 835216.

HOWEVER, we got it, wifey unwrapped it for x mas, and I was surprised to see it has the quick set date function.

I thought this wasn't available in the year 1963!

Should return watch to seller? (Crown & Caliber)

Dial of watch says on it:

ROLEX
OYSTER PERPETUAL
DATE

5 digit Ref. No. and quickset date would have me thinking it is much later than 63....but then there's that Serial No. which would put it at early 50s which doesn't make sense either .... ??

A 69173 cannot have a six digit case number.

Something here is incorrect.

Is it marked just 6917 between the lugs?

That serial number would put it at 1962/1963-ish.

Thank you Haywood and Lloyd for quick replies.

I just got off phone with Crown & caliber -- and I'm going to send it back to them on Monday for them to examine.

I dont feel like taking off bracelet to inspect lugs to see if they're giving me right serial # and ref # ... I think they got this watch mixed up with another one, as it DEFINITELY has quick set function. I'm going to let THEM figure it our.

This is second time C & C has jerked me around. Once this is settled I'm done with them. Sigh.

As above you have a date, 26mm not 28mm as is a ladies Datejust. Cannot be Quickset if it’s serial matches from the 1960,s. If it case says 69173 Return it the dial unfortunately are interchangeable between a Datejust and date on ladies .

Man, that's some absolutely shabby business on the part of Crown & Caliber.

My guess is that they forgot the last digit in the serial number. An eight million serial makes more sense.

The OP did say that they might have shipped the wrong watch so most likely the watch he received was a much later production date and not the 63 that he bought. It could have easily been a shipping error so lets wait to see what he receives before crucifying C&C. And without the OP actually looking between the lugs to verify what he actually did receive, then it is just a guessing game at this point.

Update:

Crown & cal. provided full refund. It was an error on their part they owned up to. I'm satisified. Errors happen.

OP, glad it got sorted out...keep us posted on if you find another birth year for wifey!

As for the date wheel...this is somewhat common on ladies models. I know it doesn't looks like a typical Rolex date wheel but these are quite common on ladies models...
