Panerai discontinued many models for 2021.

Looking over the 2021 catalog and I see Panerai has discontinued many models for the 2021 year. Most all of the aged or ecru markers are gone (Pam 616, Pam 661, etc..) Many of the original Carbotech models like my Carbotech Pam 661 with rose gold and ecru markers are gone. Perhaps models with the original gen 1 P.9010 (hacking second hand) movements are now gone. The plot thickens.

As if my Carbotech 661 could be even more special to me.

I was thinking about buying one with a P.9010/GMT — anything I should know good or bad?

The huge elephant in the room is that Panerai is phasing in a P.9010 that doesnt have a hacking second hand. This is all new for 2021 and these modified movements dont have any changes to their name. (very sneaky of them) We have been calling the original and full functioning P.9010 a "gen 1 P.9010". The non hacking second variation is called a "gen 2 P.9010". The movements are identical in their design and dual main spring other than a odd choice to remove the ability to stop the second hand (hack) so it can be synched to a precise source. This movement is capable of outstanding accuracy as mine does +1 second a day.
Obviously finding a Gen 1 P.9010 is very desirable so any model from early 2020 "should have the Gen 1 P.9010 movement inside.

More on the movement change.

PAM 01033 was my daily beater for about six months. After PAM USA fixed an erratic timekeeping situation she keeps consistent accurate time. I also have the metal bracelet and love the massive feel when I'm in the mood for something... HEFTY. It's the opposite of my Bvlgari Octo FS ultra-thin i've been wearing nowadays.

PAM USA service was wonderful. Frankly, they all deserve raises

Is it easy to figure out what's been discontinued?

Yes, would love to see it as the 01033 is still on their website. The main reasons i went with the relatively unpopular 01033 is due to the GMT function and of course the very important seconds reset feature. This feature is critically important to ensure setting / sync'ing the time accurately, which is the norm for proper military use. It is very shocking when a company built on supplying the MIL no longer has a way to precisely set / sync the time on their products.

I see nearly all of the gold models are gone from the brand site too.

Looking forward to the new model announcements.
