Advice on first

Hi all I’ve always had an anchoring for a panerai but always played it safe getting a planet ocean then a speedy wanting a submariner next but after trying for over a year with all the games that go with it I’ve decided it’s a pane rail next ... what’s your guys views on a good first choice as in value retention although I’ve so far never sold a watch I’ve brought yet it’s nice to know that if needs must I’d not lose too much .. I’m looking around 4-6k after any discount and nothing over 44mm . Thanks guys forgot to add a white dial favourable

My first and everyday Pam was a 111, then sold that for a 005. Easy to move on and hold up well in value

Base model, 2 hands, OK, 3 if you REALLY need a second hand. Try for a 300 Meter, screw back case, sandwich or sausage dial.... your call. So many damn model numbers...... I wouldn't go smaller than 44mm on a Pan.

Buy what you like and buy a PAM pre owned or at a discount. I'd say I prefer the screw down case back and then you don't have to mess with spring bars either.

Only and best way is to visit a boutique and try on as many as possible.
And find few that fits well in ur opinion.

Learn the different models. I.e luminor, radiomir, etc... than cases available for them. 1940, 1950, etc

Find the size and shape u like. Than u can focus on the details like sandwich, second hand, dial color, etc
Don’t worry, chances are panerai has a model that is right for u. Lol

Take ur time. I always enjoy the hunt more than the kill.

Visiting a boutique or AD to get a sense of what feels right to you. I have a number of Panerai and prefer some of the older models. You might take a look at preowned that were well loved as you can get a great watch in your price range. You might stretch a bit and land something like a 233. You might give a 372 serious consideration even though it is 47mm. If it is not a daily wear you might be surprised how it feels on your wrist. Both of those are as good as it gets IMHO.

You might also try a bit of a special piece like a 390. Super nice on the wrist, very unique with lots of Panerai DNA.

How big is your wrist? You might be surprised by how the 47mm references fit ... there so many great options to choose from.

I would recommend a gen 1 Pam 104. They make a gen 2 Pam 1104 which is very close except it doesn’t come with the better button quick change strap system. I have owned mine for a long time and it still checks all the Panerai boxes. 44mm, WR300m, full polished case, inverted cyclops, etc... Very comfortable and keeping excellent time over the years at +1 a day.
