INCOMING 126660 Deep Sea Sea Dweller James Cameron Story
Well, for anyone that read my recent Sea Dweller 43 incoming post and review, I would like to sincerely apologize. I was wrong. That was not my final destination on a long and storied history of Sea Dweller ownership. In fact, the watch had one of the shortest tenures in my Rolex collection.
What happened? Every time I strapped on the SD43, I just couldn't get comfortable. It was a small but nettlesome hassle at first but started to grow more irritating with each passing day. I was fiddling with the Glidelock all the time. This wasn't a weight issue, as I always found my 116660 DSSD very comfortable. This was a case back issue. Plain and simple. The protruding case back (with a relatively small 20mm diameter) dug into my wrist bone in all the wrong places. In the past, I have been able to get used to "less than ideal comfort" when my love for a watch superseded the inconvenience (I am looking at you Panerai). A labor of love if you will. Therein lies my real challenge with the SD43. Comfort, dear friends, was only the tip of the iceberg. With any Sea Dweller, I have been willing to trade a little bit of wearability for the cool factor when compared to my Submariner(s). With this watch, after an hour or so, I found myself switching back to my BB58 or Hulk because nothing really wowed me about the SD43. I couldn't find a compelling reason to make the sacrifice. The red text on the dial nearly disappeared while wearing it, the flat crystal felt just like any other Submariner and as much as I tried to remain open to new ideas, IMO a cyclops just doesn't belong on the brand's most venerable diving model. What was the solution? A watch that ignited passion in my heart. A watch with a plethora of unique features and a "wow factor" that would make any concession in comfort well worth the effort. A watch that I could fall in love with again. Enter the DSSD 126660...it just ticks ALL of the boxes for me. Domed crystal...check. Titanium case back...check. Unique Glidelock system...check. One of the most insane dials Rolex has ever created...double-check. Suddenly the answer was clear. I traded in my SD43 for the ultimate beast and I have never been happier. I have worn the watch all day and due to the much larger case back, I find it orders of magnitude more comfortable than my outgoing SD43. Please understand...in no way do intend this thread to bash the SD43...it is a phenomenal watch, but it just wasn't for me. This watch is a lifelong keeper in my collection and I am thrilled and grateful to be able to own a watch of this caliber. Welcome home, DSSD, I missed you!

Nice! The domed crystal is easily the best kept secret of all the sports models. I'd have a hard time going back to flat after my DSSD.

DSSD JC is one of the most underrated of all the steel sports models, particularly the 126660. All the haters complain about the size and heft, but it wears comfortably on wrists as small as 6.75 inches. That domed crystal and that glidelock are badass. And then there's that dial.

Congrats and enjoy it. Good move.
I've made exactly the same experience with the SD43 some years ago and never looked back.

I SO love my DSSD JC, too! Glad you found a fit and a passion. May you enjoy it as much as the rest of us in the club.

I’ve noticed the same thing, I currently have both and I’m always readjusting the SD43...Sometimes it feels fine for a few hours, but never a full day. I think I’ve been in denial about it’s wearability.

I have both the JC and the SD43 in my collection and am glad for it.
Both watches are awesome and one of the few that are large. |

Congratulations!
I saw a Cameron at a restaurant today. I could only tell that it was a Sea-Dweller across the room. We were leaving at the same time, so I asked about it. The owner was kind enough to let me have a couple of glances at it and showed knowledge of the different versions to convince me he was on the up and up. Always a pleasure to encounter a WIS at unexpected times.

INCOMING 126660 Deep Sea Sea Dweller James Cameron Story
People like to go on about how great the baby-Glidelock is in the sub or SD, but you don’t know great clasp until you try the DSSD Glidelock! No jiggly-jangly here.
Other great features: - domed crystal (5mm thick) - wider fully brushed oyster bracelet - blue to black fade dial - 220g weight gives feeling of PM with durability of 904L - most technical dive watch available for sale to the public - greatest dive depth rating - largest trip lock crown for easy manipulation - no cyclops Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A magnificent beast! Huge congrats, Charles. That dial....
I’ve read several posts about SD50 discomfort. You’re not alone. I’m glad you found something else that’s better for you. |

I agree whole heartily. I had both and there was just something about the SD43 that just didn't fit right so off it went. The JC Deepsea has been a constant staple in my collection.

Congrats. I had exactly the same problem with the SD43. Beautiful beast but it felt really uncomfortable on the wrist because of the small case back. However, I barely even notice when I'm wearing the JC. Anyway, big congrats.
