Might look stunning in person, but appear to be very low key in pictures.

This should be another home run for Patek!

I think the original tan Calf Strap suits better for the character of this watch. This Weekly Calendar watch in SS is a work watch--or even a tool watch, if you may. An alligator strap would be better for a more formal, dressier watch.

But, heck, you can equip it with any strap you fancy. Anything goes!

Hmm. I suspect that if not for stainless steel there would be less interest in this one. Very busy dial with the symmetry kind of ruined by the date aperture - date wheel color doesn't bother me but the cutout just doesn't cut it given the overall design.

I think I would need to see it in person, but it still is not my cup of tea despite all the live pictures and video I've seen. That dial makes me dizzy to read it and I'm still not a fan of the font. And I am not a fan of the datewheel contrast. But I do think the tan calf strap looks great on it, and I can understand the appeal!

It would be an absolute dog in white gold. That’s the hobby though. That’s the game

Dial vs the date wheel non-matching = meh. $20 strap on a molto $$$$$ piece = meh # 2. The weird calligraphy exercise on an already busy dial = meh # 3. Usually in this price range even one meh is enough to kill the interest. I am sure they will sell truckloads but it is just on where it should be in terms of these little execution details if they slap PP logo on it If it were a Tissot - I'd be rather interested...otherwise, it is a hard pass.

4 years ago Patek came out with the 5524G. Finally a casual piece on a strap was released. The issues in my opinion were the fact that it was WG and big at 42mm. With the release of the 5212A it fills a need that many of Us are looking for.... A stainless steel watch at a wearable size on a casual strap. Guys who currently own Nauts and Aquas are going to want this piece as a change of pace and to have something different. I think most would agree society in general dresses more casual (ex: nice jeans and a sport coat without a tie). You guys can flame me for this or call me a Hodinkee lover but Ben Clymer said it best during Basel when he said that the stuff on croc just doesnt work these days and I agree in many instances. Patek may be starting to realize this with their offerings for the last two years and adding more casual pieces I think ex: 5172, 5212, 5726, 5168, 5740, 5968. We may not like it but the dress watch is currently on life support. Just my 2cents

I have different view about it, and of course everything is very Subjective. But to me watches like these Calatravas: 5524G and 5212 are attempts to start guiding the public to see what patek is all about, and Patek is not about Sport watches (Nauti and Aqua) or these in between pieces (5524 and 5212). We know that when you are buying Patek you are really not serious about it until it has leather on it (John Mayer) and descently complicated.
I know this because I went for it with the 5524G , it's a cool watch (i still like it) but i Knew deep inside of me this not the essence of patek , is a step forward away from the sport watch craziness but never the ultimate destination.
So I think this watch 5212, it will do what is supposed to do , a step. And people eventually will gain appreciation for what a serious patek is all about.
Just strap a 5270P salmon dial , or even my humble 5905P on your wrist and it's Patek magic at work. Now how to get a rapper to appreciate this , you have to give them 5524G or 5212 so they start thinking more leather and less bracelets.

And even if it doesn't work, its a win win for Patek because they will make profit out of it.

He said he can’t wear leather when performing because the sweat will destroy the strap. My guess is he can afford to buy a few straps!

He recognizes that the true is that until you don't get to wear one you are just scratching the surface, totally agree with that statement. 5212A is just a in between piece on desperate times to get people out of this Nautilus craziness.
And you know that I am not a follower, so yeah go ahead an buy the 5212A. But then one year after owning it (if you still have it ) let me know your thoughts.
Believe me I know , I have made so many of these decisions and own so many watches that i shouldn't owned. This is one that I recognize and I see it coming, i think you'll be ok but don't own it for more than a year

well Kevin that's its a valid point , if your life/enviroment doesn't allow you to wear them often, what can you do ? you know. But I would still do what he did , he kept 2 or 3 of these watches with leather because he knows thats the essence of Patek.
And if someone denies that, that person doesn't know squat bro
