I'm honestly surprised anyone would pay $37k for a rubber 5167 when you can get a full PM Daytona, brand new, at or below that price.

(Disclaimer: I have a 5167, and I love it.)

5164 will be traded around usd70k- 75k by end of this year. I know it sounds crazy, but here in Indonesia a grey dealer already try to sell it around 65k.

Same comment, then. A 5164 at $70k is insane considering you can get a brand new Platona for less than that.

Gentlemen- comparing a Patek to a Rolex is foolish. Have you seen the finishing on the aquanauts’ movement and case? The number of hours to finish is significantly higher than a Rolex. There is probably more hand finishing on a single component of the 324 movement than the entire Daytona - no joke. Take a look at this video which illustrates the differences:

Rolex is great watchmaking, but comparing it to Geneva Seal or holy trinity watchmaking isn’t a fair fight. Machine made great products versus handcrafted art

We are not talking about a comparison here. The reason why some watch increased a lot in value is not mainly because they are made better than the other. It is simply because demand is much more than supply.

Talking about value wise, why not using our phone to tell time?

The basis for this whole argument is you have to subscribe that watches are art. That being the premise invalue comparison you are comparing PM Rolex against Patek steel. History is not your friend here - again not a fair fight. Patek Steel has done incredibly well even before the recent hype

Let’s now talk production numbers- again not a fair fight

So...what’s the comparison again?

The classic rules of watchmaking apply for demand and how they are made affect all 4:
1) Design
2) Provenance
3) Rarity
4) Brand

I've taken much more interest in the 5167a recently but did start tracking what companies like WF and Blowers were selling them for since 2016 when I first was made aware of the 5167. Blowers sold a 2009 for £11950 in March 2016. The most recent sale in the UK was WF selling a 2018 5167 in June 2019 for £29950. I just can't see where or if its ever going to end.

Basically you have like 1000 being made a year. Once you own a submariner you realize everyone and their mom has one and then you want an AP or Patek. You then wait a year for a 15400 and get that. Then you realize that the Nautilus and aquanauts are king and the Ceramic Daytona is Queen and you want that. Maybe you settle for a PM Daytona or play around with some hulks and Batman but soon realize they are just submariners in different colors and the PM is just heavy and easy to scratch. Patek refuses to produce more steel and your Rolex AD has betrayed you to grey. You walk into a Patek dealer and get ignored or snobbered.

You get stuck. End of story. Prices keep going up. You buy a platona; Aquanauts hit 6 figures by the end of 2020. Rolex releases more colors maybe a cherry coke. You buy that. Now you have 10 rolexes and zero Pateks. Patek discontinues the 5167- you cry

I bought mine right at this time and was thinking the 64 is still at retail while the 67 has raced ahead so it is great value but worrying it is not loved... well the 64 has now caught up and then some. I also bought the LVc two weeks before the disco rumours in Aug 17 sent that price into orbit, I never tried to time this market at all, I just got hugely lucky in buying right before they moved, never would have worked had I planned it, the Watch Gods, they know.

I haven't seen many in stock anywhere even amongst Grey's. I love mine but if someone offered that kind of money for it I would be tempted. Could use the cash and go for something like a 3940 which would be pretty sweet..

I bought mine a year ago at £17000... A 2015 model with box and papers. It was just a tad above retail and although I loved I was marginally annoyed at having to pay above retail... Now £17k seems like a good deal...
I was in Japan in November and prices there are like watchfinder. For UK gbp based people... With yen at 137...Japan is now pretty pricey... But at Nakano mall where there are lots of second hand watch shops they seem to align with Chrono more or less... And getting discounts is toughish... I bought a little while back a 15202...and really the discount is a rounding down... I probably did not negotiate as hard as I should.... But they did not seem to flex much.

What?! That guy did the same to me just after I got delivery of mine in March.
Except back then he offered 45000€
I said thanks but I really just want to enjoy the watch.

Well I assumed he’s just a scammer/conman.....I also told him that at eur65k there will be a queue of people willing to sell, so he wouldn’t need to worry about not having one for too long
