Tudor 58: Why so much love?

Hi guys,

The 58 seems to get a lot of love, more so than any other Black Bay. What makes this model so much more coveted than the others?

After I tried it on and saw it in the flesh I was converted.

The size and proportions are so refreshing compared to most other (non-Rolex) divers out there.
The style is reminiscent of the early Tudor/Rolex Submariner models which now fetch ££££ and are out of most peoples reach.
Tudor is seen as a more dynamic brand than Rolex and I think quite a few people in the watch community want to diversify, and a 39mm diver from a brand with as much history as Tudor that retails for £2600 is quite appealing.

Pretty much what Matt stated above sums it up, I just received mine yesterday and yes I can see why a lot of the sports watch community really like this reference. It certainly wears similar to a 5 digit SS model, but with the exception that it appears to be a little thicker.

So the retro feeling is an important factor here.

People that felt the 41mm black bay line was too large and too thick wanted a smaller watch. The 58 is it.

I really like it, but too small for my wrist.

I think a lot of people love the standard black bay, but the size isn't right for everyone, particularly how thick it is. The 58 solved that issue.

When a company listened to the general clamour of watch enthusiasts, surely it will be a hit.

It's a great size. Not sure that I like the riveted bracelet or the faux patina but the proportions make the 58 a great piece!

Like others have said, it's the size and proportions. In a world of 44mm Breitling divers, 50mm Panerai divers and bloated super case Rolex Subs and GMTs, people really are enjoying a return to the older correctly proportioned, golden ratio watches.

I had one personally for a while and really made me realize just how much I don't like the supercases.

Haven't found anything to complain about this watch ... I'm sure I would have paid way more and not batted an eyelid

Comparison with my 4-digit for size ..

Because regardless of what she says, size matters.
The proportions, the retro 39mm sizing, the thin case...they just work.

Exactly that. Proportions are better suited to what the subs were and what they are (except for those lugs) today.

The 41 black bay line is too bulky and honestly, i have never understood the need for it.

That said, I sold my 58 to replace it for a modern sub. As awesome as the Tudor 58, for a bit extra one can get the Rolex which is better for a lot of reasons. But for a daily beater or if budget is the real constraint, the 58 does what a sub does.

Would I choose a 58 or sub as a gift, no contest. Sub.

I agree that I love my Sub more than the BB58. However, I decided to keep both watches for different occasions.

This is what throws me off on the Pelagos. I love love love the blue one....except for the 42mm size.

Perfect response.

I never liked how the larger versions wore, but I love my 58. It just looks right.

I'm the exact opposite, there are so many Rolex watches I love (Sub, GMT, Daytona) but they all wear small on my wrist, so the larger chunkier size is what brought me to Tudor. The 41 mm Tudor GMT is the closest watch I have to my own "perfect size"

Also have a 42mm Moonwatch but it wears smaller than that, more like a 40-41 but it's a really nice overall size

I think its probably the best watch out there for the money

-tudor
-classic design
-lovely gold accents
-thin!!!
-amazing case and clasp
-robust
-red triangle on the bezel for a bit of pop

its a 9.5/10, the riveted bracelet keeps it from being perfect for me.

Also for the enthusiast, it is nice to know a brand new in-house movement was made for the watch.

When it comes to Tudor my preference leans more towards the Pelagos. I think the 58 definitely has a lot of influence from Tudor's past and I can see the appeal there.

Every time I look at the 58 I'm a little upset they didn't put a rose on the dial - it kinda ruins it for me. Still a great looking watch though.

The rivits never bothered me. The bracelet is actually better than a sub. Feels more solid.

I like how a sub has the easy link which for me puts it ahead of the BB. I’ve owned a couple of black bays, I agree it’s not a deal breakers, but I wouldn’t choose the rivets

Despite the retro styling, the in-house Black Bay 41 sat rather high, and the sides looked like metal slabs. Some people prefer larger watches, but the 58’s proportions match its design.
