Would you do this trade?

Patek Philippe 5127R & Tudor GMT for a Patek 5035?

Overwhelming no's! Thanks for the input guys. I thought the AC was popular and the Calatrava less so, pretty surprised at the feedback but appreciate it nonetheless!

What’s so wrong about ACs?

I'd like to know that, too. Seems it's popular to hate on AC for some reason, and I just don't get it. Personally, I love annual calendars. I've owned perpetuals, but to me, the AC is 99.99% of the way there, and more practical. Is it just haute horology snobbery?

Curious topic as well on reasons for not liking an AC. Also, remember the 5127 is a basic Calatrava with date. Many times I use the reference and people confuse it with the 5712 Nautilus.

IMHO, all the "no" answers are just "group think". When you ask why not AC, the answer will be it is not a Nautilus/Aquanaut and it doesn't hold its value.

Over the past 2 years, TRF Patek section has become a SS Nautilus/Aquanaut subsection and it is getting harder for "newer" members to get a more well-rounded understanding of the brand from reading the discussions here.

The AC is a nice complication that Patek patented 20+ years ago. Rolex has only had an AC watch for ~ 5 years. It is a practical watch if you wear it regularly as you don't have to set the date/month for 4 years.

I think the boys are mainly joking as we've had a few threads on how unloved the ACs have been as the sports crave has gone viral, PP is still a complications brand more than anything.

The hate for ACs is just that they almost all divebomb in resale. Caught somewhere in the middle ground.

Is it any worse than the 5127R though? They aren't exactly hot on the market.

Both resale value of calatrava and AC are not good. If you like to "upgrade" to a watch with complications, go for it. I have sold my 5146R but I miss it.

Well said... apart from the last sentence. An AC needs manual intervention every year, in February. It’s the Leap Year that adds the complexity of a PC.
A PC doesn’t need manual input, except for 2100, which most of us won’t be around to worry about.

Nothing wrong with the AC..... a lot of people say no on this particularly 5035 model, including myself because of the unbalanced looking of the roman numerals dial......

I guarantee if the OP were to change it to 5146 or 5396 there would be a lot more YES....
