Rose Gold Discolouration

Hey everyone, I just noticed discolouration on the bracelet of my 5711/1r which I picked up barely a week ago. The discolouration is most obvious at the edges of links 1 and 2. Would like to find out from you guys if this is normal or not before I discuss it with my AD. Has anyone experienced this before?

Just looks like grease from fingers to me? Did you try washing it with soap and water?

It’s definitely oxidation and happens on all rose gold watches especially if not worn for some time. It happened to my AP ROOs, full RG root beer and 5164r! . I gave it a very very light wipe with a polishing cloth and was thankfully able to remove the tarnish without screwing up the grain of the 5164r.

My Patek service centre said they couldn’t do anything but it irritated me enough on the bezel of the 5164r to take a little risk and thankfully all is well and it hasn’t come back.

Thanks for your help Darren. Tried it and it seems to be better. Great pieces you have there by the way!

Yikes... the RG mix tarnishes? I have had a terrible time with Nomos's RG but my 126655 when i had it was almost flawless. I was hoping PP's mix would have avoided this..

All Rose Gold contains copper in the alloy. Over time copper oxide may form at the surface.. Generally easily removed with a light polish.

I assume this happens regardless of regular wear or sitting in box? More so the environment the watch is in. Temperature, etc.?

Warmth, perspiration from skin contact and moisture all can contribute to this mild form of corrosion. Again, not much of a worry and easily removed.

Looks bad, I'd totally sell it for 50% while people are still interested ;-)

Seriously, it looks so bad I don't know how you would live with it. I'll tell you what, I'll do you a favor and take it from you for $200.

Totally normal for RG watches. A polish will do the trick too but it’ll always come back.

Rolex has their special Everose formula but I don’t own one to know well to comment how well that works

Don’t own any PP, though I might one day but I wear RG as a daily for the last 2 months and haven’t had any problems with Rolex Everose

No I have not before, but I would suspect that it is rather natural occurrence due to higher copper content and lower platinum

It should not be a major issue though but it is common in the AP offshores that are around 5 years old

I have always noticed some vintage RG pieces in auctions with little oxidization and never understood why it happened.
It is clearer now.
Still I am surprised PP still have no answer for that?
Perhaps that’s why I rather stick with WG and steel

June 2021. I didn’t really get to inspect the watch because I picked it up sight unseen. The discolouration is only visible under specific lighting conditions, and it hasn’t bothered me enough for me to ask my AD about it.

Knock on wood I haven't seen this happen yet on any of my RG watches, a 2018 Breguet 5177, a 2015 El Primero Chronomaster, and a 2007 Chronoswiss Chronoscope, but all of mine are on leather straps, so perhaps this is only an issue that occurs on RG bracelets.

I think the oxidisation gives it a nicer colour actually. My 5980/1r is doing it and it's only a year old. I like it.

That said, I'd prefer if they made more J variants to start with - I like that much more.
