Models that the market hates, but you love

With the wild Nautilus and Aquanaut markups, it’s fun to talk about “value” in the Patek lineup. Which pieces do the secondary market hate that you love?

For me, it’s this one — I can’t for the life of me understand why the 5960g doesn’t hold value better. It’s such a great piece — great size and color, useful complications, casual and sporty. The case is superb and the finishing details on the pushers blow me away. I love it.

Nice thread for sure. I'll go with the 5524...absolutely love the piece but it didn't get much love in the secondary market.

I could not agree more. In fact I am wearing my Golden Ellipse 3738 right now on jeans with a shirt and a jacket. Love to wear it casually(, but not with sport clothes or short sleeves).

Hate is probably too strong a word, but the 5726 doesn’t get as much love as it should IMO

I like the 5930G and 5930P in both blue and green dials respectively. The hand-guilloched is beautiful!

3998P. Would pick it any day over 5296 or 5227 given their (too) large dials (for a basic dress watch that is) and the lack of platinum variants.

I always wanted to buy a 5960 but was turned off by the annual calendar functions. What's wrong with a straight chronograph? If PP had made this with greater water resistance as a sport chronograph it would have been a hit but since PP invented the annual calendar they had to put it into every watch they made and piggy back it onto other functions you might want in a complications overkill.

The 5107 and 5127 are the perfect combination of elegance and modern design in a case that can go casual or dress without looking ludicrous, too small or large, on the wrist. The 5227 is underrated but all Calatravas are unless they are in steel.

The 5235 was a "hot" watch when it was produced in small numbers earlier in it's production cycle and not everyone could get one. Auction prices far exceeded retail price. Then as availability improved, it become less popular as those who liked it got them and others realized it is widely available and lost interest. Funny thing with human psychology is that people want what they can't have. So if somethibg is easily available, it is not as desirable.

The only two Pateks I lust after are the 5905p and the travel time, which as per the above can be found at decent prices.

I think almost all ACs would be fall in the category (at least initially) but with how everything seems to be overpriced these days the AC market has received some attention and thus some value increases.

I've been tracking my 5205 since I got it and surprisingly when I expected to lose some money on it, it actually went up.

To the OP's 5960G, love the watch. Hoping to add this particular model one day.

I love the blue world time 5930G (and the new green one) but I think it's just too expensive for me.

I remember when no one cared about the Aquanaut.

I always did.

Gael Monfils (French tennis player) got married recently nearby Geneva (Many "celebrities" attended the ceremony).

Can you see the watch he chose for his special day: https://www.instagram.com/p/CRZeNxaB3GW/

24 months ago, one of my AD (official Patek) tried to convinced me to buy some aquanauts (non-steal or with complications) because they were looking for buyers.

I politely declined because I did not like it.

Will demand distribution return to pre-covid (which would explain why no brand is increasing the unit produced) or will it continue (brands are waiting because nobody knows)?
