I don't know if I "prefer" one or the other.

The submariner is classic and probably will fly under the radar more due to lack of the iconic cyclops.

The Sub Date is as close to a perfect GADA as you can get...but does have the cyclops, so while more "functional" than submariner, will stand out more.

In my opinion for you, you have a cyclops on your pepsi, and judging by your ability to purchase multiple multi-thousand dollar watches, you probably have a cell phone that can tell you the date. I'd go with the original.

Just wondering, if you are in the hunt for a Sub (date or no-date), would you take whichever that you are offered first? Or is your preference for one so strong that you will wait out even if offered the other?

Sans date has always been my Submariner preference. Since my first one back in 563?early 90s.

Both are excellent, it comes down to your own taste and need.

I need a date on all my everyday watches so a date it is, for me. Doesn't ruin the dial, isn't less pure, it makes one of the best watches ever made, even better.

Whatever you go for, enjoy it. :)

Date vs No Date

I too have a ND and a GMT. If I didn't own the GMT I would rather have a sub with the date. I know there are lots of ways to find out the date. Iphone for example but can't tell you how many times a day I look at my watch for the date. A habit of many years.

My vote is on the Sub. Its a classic. Plus you don't have to bother with the date.

Definitely no date. Love the cleaner look. I always seem to know the date so would never need to check on a watch.

I simply fall back on my explorer for my simple no date reference. My sub has a date window!

I prefer my 14060m, but i dislike the cyclops. If I would have wanted the date, I would have gone with a Sea Dweller due to the lack of cyclops.

If you’re a purist then go ND. If you need your watch to also be your calendar then go with the date. Both iconic and great references. I myself prefer the 114060 ND

I use my 14060m bezel for the date...simply rotate the triangle to the minute marker that corresponds to the date. So, I have a 14060m that has a “date,” although I have to rotate the bezel daily.

Next...Please start a poll to see if people prefer Coke or Pepsi.

I predict you will get responses as follows:

Coke

Pepsi

Coke

Pepsi

Similar to the ones you have / will receive for Date / No Date.

Date

No Date

Date

No Date

You answered your own question in the first sentence of your post. You want a Submariner so why even ask the forum about the Submariner Date?

Ask yourself this, do you often ask what date it is or need to check to make sure you have the correct date? If so go w the date version. I have often opt for date version of a watch but the one watch I love the most is the Daytona which of course has no date. Both would be great addition...

Original Submariner! Unless you want everyone to ask you about your “Rolex” then by all means go Date.... :)

I grew up wearing Casios and reflexively look at my wrist when (several times a day) I want to know the date.

Recently, when I wanted to buy a fine mechanical watch, I was torn between an Aqua Terra and an Oyster Perpetual. AT's got a date. OP has classic, pure style, and felt great on my wrist.

The OP is now my daily wearer. I'm training myself to look at my phone or my computer to see the date, or (duh!) just remember what day it is! Also training myself not to feel stupid when, inevitably, I still look at my wrist to see the date.

I would prefer a Sub of the no-date variety. I guess I've become some kind of purist watch snob!

As for popularity on TRF, a recent poll puts the Submariner as more popular than the Submariner Date. (56% to 44%)

Submariner 14060M for me.

I checked it out, nicely done, and I guess we are on the same wavelength -- my go-to for five years now has been my Submariner, the classic, and last week I picked up a DJ41 silver dial / jubilee / fluted, absolutely awesome beauty, I think it actually radiates light, has an aura (LOL).

And: I am one of the many who are hoping to get a call for the Batman, in which case I'd have the same three you spoke of in the video. The jubilee on the DJ is eye-catching in the extreme, just great to look at, and on the GMT it must be no less astonishing.

GMT is a true travel watch and I'd say it has its place if you indeed travel (especially on business). I see a solid role for all three, without question, and my phone will ring soon. In the meantime, the two I have are worthy of the highest gratitude and enjoyment.

There is nothing pure about a modern rolex…

I have both date and no-date (16610 and 14060), and among the two I prefer the no-date, simply because I also have other watches with date. Mix it up!
