New Releases for 2020

I have been doing some reading on the forum and looked back at everyone’s predictions for Basel 2019. I was surprised that a lot of the speculation proved to be somewhat accurate. I am interested in hearing everyones predictions for 2020. I have heard rumors about a new sub this upcoming year which would be awesome. I also read about the possibility of a new Coke which is super exciting in my opinion. I know this is just speculation and no one knows for certain besides Rolex, but wanted to open the floor for discussion. Thanks

I am far more interested in what will actually be available for purchase than any new models per se.

I would love Rolex to add a ceramic bezel to the Explorer II. A few of us are crazy about the look but I don’t think it has the broad popularity to make the cut. I’ve also thought a GMT Coke was a no-brainer.

So far, 0 for 2. :(

A Coke would be a show stealer. I have a feeling it would be more attractive (black & red ceramic probably could be executed more accurately) than the Pepsi ... and probably would become the new “it” piece.

Interestingly, a YouTuber (London Watch Collector) predicts that the BLNR will be discontinued in 2020 or 2021 believing Rolex is using inventory of BLNR bezels up before making switch.

I would feel certain whenever Rolex releases new Sub, they will want it to be the show stealer. So, I predict new Sub in 2020 with slightly slimmer lugs (like current GMTs) and new 32__ movement. For some reason, I also predict that the Sub ND will be discontinued temporarily for 2020. Then in 2021 or 2022 reintroduced with case & movement upgrades. I wouldn’t be surprised that Hulk would be discontinued - and brought back a year later it possibly replaced by a SS Blue Sub.

I think BLNR continues until Coke release in 2021, when it will be retired. Maybe an all black GMT would return in 2021 with jubilee.

New PM and likely TT Sub. Hulk and/or ND Sub revamped to 3235 as well. Platona will be phased out. Watch out for some new PM Daytona with possibly different colour of ceramic bezel. Some novelties in SkyD. Probably Pt one. New YG GMT quite likely will be introduced. As a whole two lines of development in 2020 - Sub line start of phasing out 3135 and gradual substitution through out 2020 and 2021 with 3235 and the other line will be PM pieces. Most of the novelties will be with them.

I don't think anyone was expecting a WG YM on OF in a new 42mm size. I recall how crazy the whole community was this past year when the RPR leak came out a day (or two?) before announcement. A lot of us thought the whole leak was doctored/fake, including myself. Putting the BLNR on jubilee seemed like an obvious prediction (with probably equal amounts of us thinking it would be discontinued all together) but I doubt any of us were calling for the LN GMT to be fully discontinued this past year (swapped out for new reference with upgraded movement, yes; but not gone all together).

I do think the Sub is up for some kind of upgrade, even if it's minor. This is solely based on the new 3235 movement being in all the YM's now but not the Subs yet.

Every year for the last three years someone predicts a new sub. They’ll get it right sooner or later. GMT coke would be cool though.

New Coke is years away. They are going to ride the Pepsi and Batman wave as long as you they can. Why dilute the waters.

An updated Sub is definitely due. Hopefully it'll sport thinner lugs...

Agreed . . . speculating on what might come out but won't be available for several years is pointless.

Coke GMT-Master II; say it for enough years and eventually you'll be right. People have been saying it for the past eight years or so and have been wrong every year. If Rolex does it next year, we will get a bunch of "I told you so" posts on the forum.

What's most likely... New movement for the Submariner. They are also likely to re-vamp the case and hands every so slightly like they did with the GMT-Master II. As far as other models, we might get some two tone or precious metal variations. I don't suspect Basel 2020 will be all that exciting, nor should it be. Rolex obviously has a winning lineup at the moment with all of their models modernized. The next generation will be a roll out of the new movements.

Agreed. And it's a dumb idea. Why homogenize the line and turn it into a GMT-Master II? The stainless steel bezel is one of the signature design cues of the reference. Changing that for the sake of throwing more ceramic around would be a mistake.

I can't get over how many times I see posts where people basically want to scale the Explorer II back down to 40mm and give it a ceramic bezel. It sounds like people just want a GMT-Master II with an orange hand.

THIS is spot on

Either nothing new or nothing we want.
Thinking it's going to be a letdown year and create even more want for the current line of SS sport models.

If Rolex is trying be more exclusive like PP this is what they would do.

My bet is a TT GMT on jubilee. Not that I’m interested in such, just a hunch.
