Buy her an Omega instead. That is indeed the biggest "Rolex surprise" to get. ;)

For my wife I bought and paid for it. Then had her go in try it on and the rep told her it was already sold. After she reacted, he said it was hers. Worked out well.

For the cost involved I'd have her choose. Sure hate for your best guess to be wrong.

Take her to the Swatch store first.
Watch the reaction when you say pick anyone you want and Happy Anniversary.

100% agree.

You've already made a deposit, so the store is expecting a visit. I'd let them know your plan advance so they know -- they might do something special to make sure the shopping experience is an extra memorable one for her.

Agreed on the experience. When I got the call on mine I had a total of like three minutes to get everything done. I regret that I couldn’t savor it more. You can’t but a second first Rolex.

That being said I can’t wait to hear how this plays out!

Yes, as others have mentioned, definitely an AD experience for your first ever Rolex!
and as some have suggested, call the AD ahead, I'm sure they'll be happy to accommodate.

Before you walk into the boutique, make it out like you're interested in buying your first Rolex and want to try some on for yourself.

I’ll take her in. I believe the buying experience comes along with the gift. And it would help get the perfect size to fit her wrist.

Having both surprised my wife with her first Rolex and been surprised...here’s my thoughts:
1) Definitely work with the AD in advance if you decide to go the store route
2) I did the same you did and got a sense for what she liked, so I bought the white dial, romans, TT DJ (not returnable) and gave it to her after a nice dinner; she was thrilled, didn’t want to return it.
3) My wife surprised me with all three of my Rolexes; 1) SD she knew I’d want, no risk there; 2) BLNR she knew I’d want, no risk - she swapped out my watch one night and placed the BLNR on my night stand after I fell asleep. Was I shocked in the morning when I reached for my watch and felt a cyclops on; 3) WG DD 40 — this was truly a shock and awe watch, not expected until I was 60+. She had it wrapped in an Amazon package (fully sealed) with address label printed out from Amazon, etc. During my b-day dinner the door bell rang, it was my neighbor saying UPS delivered to the wrong house. I set the pkg aside and didn’t pay any attention. At the end of dinner my kids said, “dad you should open that, it may be from your parent” I opened and boy was I surprised. Super grateful, but I wasn’t thrilled with WG and silver roman dial. I liked the lume, sticks. Returned the next day for RG and Sundust/stripes dial.

Lesson learned - if you truly surprise outside the AD route, then make sure stickers in tack and card not filled out (AD will / can hold) and you can return.

Best of luck! and Congrats on the 10 years!

You're a thoughtful husband. Any way that you give her the gift, she'll love the experience, and she'll love the watch for years and years!

I want to add that before I paid for it we had been in the store looking for me and she had liked the watch so I knew she wanted it. I think that’s important given it’s a big purchase.

That's cool... I'd want my better half to know the risks of purchasing luxury watches, but if it's done at AD's, then amazing!
However, are AD's still that flexible nowadays? Sold with stickers and warranty card blank? hhmmm...

We’ve known the AD for about 15 years now...he worked with her on the BLNR and DD surprise. The DD he left stickers on and held the card. The BLNR he filled out the card and removed stickers. This was about 12 mos after BLNR came out.

Needless to say, I have a great wife!!!
