Retired Milgauss with numbers around dial??

Have a chance to buy an unworn retired Milgauss from an AD, but I cannot find out anything about the specific one. It’s not got the orange second hand, and has a large numbers around the black dial. I was not able to get a pic.

Curious if anyone has some info on a Milgauss that would fit this description. Year, rarity, etc

The original Milgauss in the mid- late 1950's had a numbered bezel similar to the Submariner of that era. They went to a smooth bezel about 8-10 years after that and it ran until late 1980s. Then it wasn't made for about 20 years and came back in it's current form in 2007 or 2008. The orange is only present on the current generation styles.

Without a picture, it's really hard to say what it is but there is a chance it's from the late 1950's to early 1960's.

Not that one. It’s actually a smooth bezel, with the numbers on the dial face. I’ll try to get a pic of it

The 6541 had the numbered bezel. The 1019 is a smooth bezel with stick dial, not a numbered dial.

A Milgauss with a numbered dial is called an Air-King.

(not really, but the current AK uses a Milgauss case)

Or it could be the exceptionally rare 6543. The first Milgauss, less than 200 made. Note the follow on models have the thunderbolt second hand, a decidedly striking improvement IMO (except the boring 6019/1019 of course).

That was the same thought I had until he said it had a smooth bezel.

You're sure it says "Milgauss" on the dial? Definitely get some photos when you can.

Right.

That’s a 36mm Oyster Perpetual. Not a Milgauss at all.

im actually confused... i saw the hang tag on the watch, and it clearly states "milgauss"... and the dealer is representing it as such. i called back today to get the number, and thats what she gave me. i kinda like the watch, and am tempted to buy it anyways.

It’s def not a milgauss. Cool looking oyster though. Get them to show you Rolex catalog that is millgauss

Air king has very similar anti magnetic case so that may be true for oyster .

Uh...I don't know if I would buy a watch from somebody who doesn't know what it is.

What else might they not know?

I'm sure many barn finds are discovered this way. I'm 100% onboard with resellers not knowing what they have as long as the price is in my favor.
