newbie here. my continuous journey to a ss daytona white dial
the journey started september 2018, finally decided to get my first rolex. looking through the rolex website, the ss daytona white jumped out to me so i knew that was it. not knowing the situation, i thought you would just go into the ad and ask for the watch and if they dont have it, they would order for me. wait a few months and that was it. pretty much you guys know what happened when i walked into the ad. A straight up no, and no waiting list is available. upon further research, the next time i went to ad, i brought my friend with me that had purchase couple rolex from them. after the ad checked out his status, the ad said no to the waiting list cuz he had only spent $43k there, and the requirement to be on the waitlist is $50k. a few months later, january 2019, my friend and i walked in to the ad again. this time my friend has decided to buy a $39k wg daytona, and when he asked when the ss daytona white will be available to him, the ad would not give a specific time but she said a very good chance 3- 6 months. so let the waiting begin. would love to hear other stories and advices would be great.
please be gentle, as i stated im a newbie and i would update if and when i get my called from the ad |

First, You need to establish a relationship with AD and You will probably have to purchase another watch first such as Stainless SUB. No, AD will sell a Ceramic Daytona to anyone , must be a top customer, just my opinion. It worked with me , as I found out the hard way and thru time.

Hopefully it works out but don't be surprised if that 3-6 months turns to 3-6 years.

Welcome to the world of Rolex garbage. I have branched out to other brands and I could not be happier.

Sounds like you have a solution via your friend with a pretty short wait compared to others, nice work.

Well...okay. You haven't had much of a journey yet, TBH. While your friend is getting credit for the WG Daytona purchase, you're not...so you're not building any relationships for any future purchases.
My advice would be to get out and do your own buying and start building your own relationship with an AD. My two cents. |

My relationship with a couple of ADs are different, yet the same in a way. My nearby AD has a list, no prerequisite purchases but I have done around $10K in jewelry business with them. I asked if I bought a replacement Day-Date would that help me move up on the list? No, said he. They are a small family operation and have only received one each year. I guess low Rolex volume is a factor. Another AD is in a prime high-income area of ATL and has no list. Instead, the Rolex “specialist” (yep, it’s even on his card ) offered me the next Daytona500 that comes in the shop - if I purchased a replacement Platona right then. Due to their volume he gets one every 3 months or so (says he). He also dropped the Platona price from $75K to $65K with just a little nudging. No, I didn’t buy - just sharing as it just illustrates how wide the gulf is between independent AD’s just 25 miles apart. Almost the exact opposite. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Hoping to build credit with the ad too but being the ss daytona is the watch i want. I gotta use my friend's credit and take my chance with the waiting game. Appreciate all the advices.

Welcome. It’s a good think you weren’t shooting for a Patek SS Nautilus. Your friend would need to have spent a lot more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Its ok to set off on your journey, it's never too late. Try get a good relationship with your AD and i bet over time you'll get calls of available time piece.

3-6 mo. sounds very optimistic. Even people with great AD relationships find themselves waiting much longer than that. Hopefully it works out.

Frankly I would find another AD. Have to spend 50K to get on the list. Crazy. Far better off buying gray for 20K. Wouldn't you get the watch now and save 43K?

I agree - and that’s the route I took with my original Platona. I was only sharing the offer to show how different ADs work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Why not just buy it from a gray dealer? A lot cheaper than spending big bucks on building credit with an AD.

Royal Maui Jewelers in San Diego (North County Mall) informed me that I needed to buy a single PM piece (no discount) to get a SS Daytona or BLRO. And even at that, once you buy the PM piece, the 500c is 1 year and BLRO is 18 months later.
Do the math - Full gold GMT Pepsi is say $36k, but you can buy now secondary market for $26k (save $10k). Buy Daytona 500C black dial for $19k ($7k over). You get both you want now and save $3k, of course you don’t get name on warranty cards. However, just forget the PM and just buy the 500C and pay $19k instead of $50k for PM and 500c retail.
