I have to agree. I recently purchased my first Rolex (DJ41), and it was the watch I grew up knowing the brand by.

Years ago I had no interest in sports models and owned two DJs, long gone now. In the last few years the Sub got me re-interested in watches. It took me a couple of years more to fall back in love with the DJ, specifically the 41 which l now covet as much as any and believe it to be worthy in any collection or as a one only. Long live the Datejust....

Cara Barrett of Hodinkee claims the Lady Datejust is the most sold of any Rolex.

I don't think I believe this as it does not pass the gut check. But it's an interesting comment from an expert I respect.

Check out the video, shortly after the 3-minute mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NekZ...ature=youtu.be

The DJ is my first official Rolex. It will always be a classic and from time to time, I still miss trading it in. It is iconic and that is the first rolex I know. The only reason I traded in my DJs is only because I upgraded to DDs. Otherwise, I would still be wearing my DJs. The only sports watch I like from the Rolex line is the Sub and GMT. People from this forum will hate me for saying this, but I hated the Daytona and did not miss it for a second after trading it in. I bought it when I heard about the hype and how hard it was to find at an AD. I held it for 6 years and probably wore it 30 times in that span.

I pretty much like only fluted DJ and DD models.
I do have a keen eye for the TT Rootbeer GMT and the Everose Yachtmaster on the rubber strap.

I think the Datejust is a great watch , perhaps the 36mm size held it back but the new 41 mm with the upgraded movement is a whoosybob , plus they are usually readily available in most configurations .

Having taken 8 years to track down a 1675 & a 1680 , and having recovered from selling a GMT Master Fat Lady during the GFC for virtually lunch money I'm ready to make a move on a datejust , but not with diamonds on the dial .

Nothing wrong with diamonds on the dial, so long as it's tastefully done. Also nothing wrong with the 36mm size, but then I have skinny wrists and prefer my watches to be as subtle as possible. So much so that I took off the two tone jubilee bracelet on this beauty to make it less ostentatious...

A DJ was my first Rolex back in the ‘90’s as it was what I grew up coveting. Launched in 1945 it predates nearly all of the professional models and, to me, was the original sports watch. Classic.

My TT DJ 16013 is my daily wearer. Classic, can be dressy or a little sporty, and sits perfectly under my shirt cuff. It compliments my tastes for what I desire in a wristwatch. I would however like to read more posts and view more photos of DJ’s... I keep learning so much from all the DJ posts here.
