Paul Newman Daytona Original Center Second Hand
I have been studying Paul Newman Daytonas and there were many valuable informations that I found online. However, I couldn't get information on color of original center second hand (chronograph hand).
Especially for 6263 Paul Newman Pandas (white dial), I found center second hand with either black or silver color. Is there a general rule of original color of center second hand? (For example, black is the original color and silver is service replacement hand?) Below is an example of 6263 PN white dial with black center second hand. https://www.phillips.com/detail/role...n&searchPage=2 And below is an example of 6263 PN white dial with silver center second hand. https://www.phillips.com/detail/role...n&searchPage=1 Thanks for your information! |

It could have come either way. There was also Black hour and minute hands (for people with poor vision) for the white dial.

And to make it more interesting, neither watch may have their original hands if a non-RSC watchmaker changed them over past 50 years.
The color of the hand didn’t matter much, it’s the arrow on the tip that matters when you’re doing lap times with a Daytona. If you’re actually timing an Enduro, the seconds hand isn’t as important as total time and stint time for driver changes. Those tiny sub-dial totalizer hands are impossible at night - no lume. Wow great information. Thank you guys so much for informations.
I never knew there were black minute hands. I should look more closer. So for 6263 Paul Newman panda dial, both silver and black chrono center second hand were original to the watch. Nobody can judge originality of the hand, just by color. |

I have been observing a lot of varations of vintage daytonas, and I found that there are many variations of center chronograph hand tip.
Is there a general rule of correct arrow tip of center chronograph hand? For 6263 Paul Newman Panda, it looks like white small triangle shaped arrow tip is original. (regardless of the hand color) I found a lot of variations with color and shape or arrow tip. 1. Color: white/black/silver 2. Shape: small/long triangle Thanks in advance! |
