My brother in law is just about to set off in the Clipper round the world race as skipper of Ha Long Bay.

Incredibly he is only 31 years old.

Seeing a large number of Submariner and sea dwellers on the crew members! Great to see them in their natural environment.

I read about the race for the first time using the link provided by the OP. Astounding premise for the race. Most of the crews are populated with ordinary people without prior yachting experience. Of course the skipper and one or two in the helm are very experienced.

It’s 40,000nm if one stays on the crew for the full length of all the legs.

Quick update,

After a slow start Josh (Ha Long Bay) chose a different approach and has carried some superb speed over that last couple days. They currently hold the fastest speed and are closing fast on 5th place. Tactically he opted to hold course than divert pointlessly for the scoring gate (only the first 3 get points). Attached is a short blog and the images showing how he has cut through the race

So,

Josh and crew were 2nd in the sprint picking up 2 points. They were then sat overall 5th on their approach to the finish.

But now they are facing the wrong way and dropped to 7th lol.

Hi all,

Josh and HLB are sat in 4th In race 2, he lost a little time earlier.

He's very fast atm and lost a place going for the scoring gate (got 3rd on it).

Hes just about to enter the Doldrums Corridor.

It's not all been all easy though, some uncomfortable reading that I wouldn't reccomend for those with weak stomach's lol

Wow, I'm not sure if I would ever be able to be on a boat for an extended period of time. It's crazy to think how people survived this hundreds of years ago. In fact, I almost rather not
