Totally different watches. I don’t like the feel of the old ones. The 16710 is not vintage but merely outdated.

16710 is one of the greatest references Rolex has ever produced.
I think it’s the pinnacle of the GMT. The new Pepsi is the “latest and greatest” but it’s no 16710. Strictly speaking, if the watch is being worn for dress purposes the new one is the better fit. The finishing is a step above, the ceramic looks and is more expensive, and the new jubilee sparkles. It does not have the same charm as the vintage models. Also, I highly prefer the old bezel font to the new one. One is timeless and the other is too modern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

my point here is that pontificating about your favorite watch may actually really piss other people off, when you act as if it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. give me the ceramic bezel, the solid font, the deeper color, the better movement, the better bracelet, all day long. opinions are as we know like.... and we all have them. i don’t hate the 16710. i don’t even truly dislike it. i just dislike the way you dismiss the modern watch. have a lovely monday.

As I said earlier if I ever got one at retail I would immediately flip it or use it to trade for a Kermit. Alas this would be highly unlikely as I'm not on any waiting lists and am not going to bother trying. |

No wrong answers here and purely personal preference. For me, I like 5 digits over 6 and own a 16710 so that’s my answer.

as i have already said i think the older pepsi looks chintzy and cheap. it’s all about perspective. i love the 1675, but i’d never buy one, after buying my 126710. we all have our opinions. none of them are wrong.

I just bought a new one. But given the opportunity, if the 5 digit was really in good shape and the price was right, I would consider it.
If I had to pick one, new is just better for me. I'm tired of old things and it seems like I have too many old things around my house. Myself included. |

In regards to the OP I'd pick 16710 just because I like the look more. Both will do the job equally well so for me it simply comes down to how it looks on my writs. |

16710 has special looking and feels on wrist, maybe have much more potential on value in future, but when old compares new,i choose new, because new requires less maintenance, longer life, advanced features,so i can enjoy watch more.but its just me
real collectors may want old |

Incoming SD Wife just back from HK and brought over this 2007 Sea Dweller 16600 full set for me. Very nice condition, bought from the original owner, paid HK$68k and dinner at nice restaurant. He says that its probably due for a service as the last time it was done in 2012. He also says he very rarely wears it and I'm inclined to believe him as its immaculate. Got my daughter to wear it over. Box & papers sent via airmail last week which have actually arrived and cleared customs with no fees to pay. Hopefully will be delivered tomorrow. This. I want the “best” watch to grow with and vintage watches don’t compare to modern pieces in terms of quality. They have a different appeal, similar to classic cars, art, etc. - and I fully respect people who prefer them. However, every time I try a 5dig or older on, it feels cheap to me, comparatively speaking. I’d get more enjoyment from a ceramic Daytona over Paul Newman, a 116610 over a 1680 red, etc. My wife doesn’t care for watches, but my she loves pocket watches and would definitely prefer the oldest vintage bubble back or whatever Rolex she can find over any modern piece (and she is not wrong). Just different preferences. I also don’t consider 16710 vintage or modern. It sits in the middle and I would 100% prefer a 126710 given the choice. Just my very subjective opinion. |

Modern for me. My 126710 has been worn 95% of the time since I received it last December.

1675/16750 is my all time favorite but 16710 was the _last beautiful GMT_. :)

I’m a bit surprised to see the 5 digit leading here, but then again, it is a great reference

Ultimately there is no right answer in this debate.
The new Pepsi is a very blingy watch. I live in New York City and would feel very uncomfortable and self-conscious wearing it. Conversely, I wear my 16710 Coke every day and it hardly gets noticed. That’s the way a great watch should be. Classy and under the radar. And I won’t even mention the versatility of swapping out bezel inserts. I started with the all black, now wear a Coke, and maybe one day will swap it for a Pepsi. And that luscious ‘flimsy’ bracelet is so incredibly light and comfortable. If I could afford a 1675 in great condition to serve as an every day watch, I would definitely be tempted. But as things stand, my D serial 16710 is as good as new and I love it. |

as much i want to say the 16710, since owning the 126710, i've never worn the 16710 anymore. well i won't let go the 16710 because it's my first Rolex i purchased. just too bad it doesn't get any wrist time..

Some very interesting observations! It really boils down to what do you prefer: Old school GMT or new school GMT. Again, there is no wrong answer. Both are beautiful.

This like comparing a fully restored 356 Speedster and a new 911. Two completely different driving experiences. Yes the Speedster will feel flimsy compared to it's modern counterpart just like my 16760 feels a little flimsy compared to my 12710blnr.
But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy both equally. The patina on my Fat Lady can't be beat and it's a thing of beauty to look at. While the Day Glow Blue lume on the BLNR is also awesome to look at. Two different watches equally as satisfying but at different times. I guess it depends on the mood and where you are. |
