Probably in about 10 years. The MSRP will be above $20k.

It only came out in 2016, which makes it only 3 years into it’s lifecycle - that’s nothing for Rolex.

As Padi56 stated earlier it wasn’t really a new watch but a minor cosmetic upgrade. The movement is very old.

I think this is likely as this is the one watch that Rolex will manipulate to keep it exclusive and at a higher premium.

It is MSRP if you can get an allocation. Another option is buy some PM pieces at MSRP and then the AD may offer one to you for MSRP.

Yes, interesting to see peoples predictions back in 2016 that it would be back to retail in 12 to 18 months...lol.

I'm now predicting the 12th of never...

I've only ever seen the Daytona C in pics, never in the flesh but tbh its never really 'done it' for me to the point where I've thought 'got to have one'

I appreciate its a nice watch and it may well be different if I actually did see one, but I certainly wouldn't be prepared to spend double over retail at a grey dealer.

If this trend continues it will soon be cheaper to buy a full PM piece!

Just saw this is an old thread. The predictions were wrong as the now the watches are in the mid-low 20's. But I think we are seeing a short term soft leveling off. But, that may be short lived and the prizes will begin to rise again.
Supply is just too low and Rolex will adjust it further down if that is needed to sustain the hype. They love all this mania.

Very interesting to see predictions from 3 years ago as many things sound like it would make sense. Looking back, crazy how off many of us off. I think hard to get make things interesting

There are two camps if this happens. Those that want to buy the outdated model in speculation it will be a collectors item and those that must have the very latest movement and model. Prices either way probably won’t go down. I believe Rolex will embrace the new market value of their SS watches and make a massive msrp price increase to closely mirror current grey market pricing. There is nothing normal in the Rolex history that one can draw on to give any educated direction on what is going on now. We are in unprecedented times and that cannot be overstated with Rolex watches. We are way beyond fads and cyclical fashion influencing what is going on with Rolex.
IMO, the 4130 is the best chrono there is so I don't expect it to be updated any time even remotely soon.

As for getting a Daytona at MSRP, best guess is in 9-10 years from a gray (maybe from an AD as well if it follows the 116520 and you have a relationship) , but what the MSRP is at that time, nobody knows...

BNIB steel Daytona’s have been MSRP+ asking prices on the secondary market since the mid 90’s, and they really bumped up with the 116520 and gone stratospheric with the 116500. In other words, don’t hold your breath.

There was a window just prior to the 116500 that they were much more available than they had been in many years, and some lucky buyers happened to run into a new one in the case at an AD, or get one with a wait of only a few months. That didn’t change the grey pricing significantly, but used pieces came down a couple thousand under MSRP.

This is how long and wrong the msrp forecasting has been over the years.
Extrapolate this to the new GMT’s or any new SS professional model. This is why the wait and see crowd will not have a new watch on their wrist any time soon unless they get very lucky at a AD.

We use to hear Rolex won’t make trendy over 40mm watches either.

Rolex start stockpiling inventory long before Basel.

Daytona has for many years been at a premium. The only time in the near future that they will be available at MSRP will be if we see a major economic melt down and trust me 98% of us will not be intrested all of a sudden.

I bought my first one when MSRP was $7,800 USD. The market price was $10-11k then.

But remember this is before the global hype really took off for all the hot models of a few brands, so as the Daytona was really the only one back then no one thought prices would go quite like this, even those of us who thought there would be a hefty premium for a long time.

This watch will never sell at or below MSRP on secondary market. Here's to hoping I'm wrong in the near future

The day shall come when the entire world gets overrun by leftists, socialists, environmentalists..... alas, the Daytona C can be had at or below list.

around the same time as the zombie apocalypse, Rolex would rather discontinue the Daytona than have them freely available.

The days of the AD ordering 10 white and 10 black and receiving them all are over.

Watch is pretty much perfect as is including the “old” movement. Only thing that would make it better would be a brushed lugs and bracelet.
