Datejust size question for my wife

We were looking at a new Datejust yesterday. She tried on both a 31 and a 36. I think she could go for either one of these. To me, the 36 seemed a bit large but the 31 seemed a bit small. Unfortunately, Rolex does not make a TT DJ in 34.

She is 5"8", thin, with a 6" wrist. When you put a watch on for a minute or two, I don't think you really get the feel of what it would be like to live with it. This morning she said she is leaning towards the 36mm.

For the women on here, (or the men who know)... if you bought a 36 or larger watch, do you ever feel that you you should have gone smaller after wearing it for a while?

Definitely 36 is ok. My wife has a small wrist, and only wears 36. Also holds value better, and you can wear it if she allows you.

Wife has a 31 DJ and a 37 YM. The 37 (or 36 in your case) is a more contemporary size and fits todays fashion trend better. The 31 is a classic size. I think the 36 is more versatile, plus its easier to read.

My wife had a similar decision but went with the DJ36 and has had no second thoughts since.

My wife has a similar build and owns both a Lady Datejust in 28mm and a Lady Omega Seamaster in 38mm. They wear differently, but well. She actually prefers the Omega on both leather and the bracelet, and wears the DJ if she wants something daintier.

My wife has a 36 and a 31. She wears the 31 way more often than the 36.

My wife has the 36. She is petite.
The 31 looks nice, but looks more like a bracelet.
The 36 has more of a presence, as a watch.
I can say the same for men when choosing between 41 and 36.

Go with a 36, especially if your wife suggested she is leaning more towards the 36.

My wife has the 31 (diamond dial/bezel) which is her elegant piece and only wears it with dresses etc. to formal events. Other than that, her daily is a Daytona and any of my sub/gmts. When she tries on DayDates at the AD, she absolutely wants the DD40 despite my insisting that DD36 is better on her.

Go with the 36.

My wife is 5'1" with skinny wrists. She chose a 36mm DJ on jubilee and it looks fine on her.

Mine prefers the 31 over the 36. Also wears a Daytona, yachtmaster 35 and an omega that’s about 35 if I had to guess.

Speaking as a woman I'd go with the 36mm. I find it much more legible and holds value better.

There's no substitute for visiting your AD with her and trying the different sizes. Other people's wives, partners girlfriends are irrelevant. Comparing height, build etc to other women is meaningless. Wrist size, and her personal taste on the size she would like to wear is everything.

I thought of getting a DJ36 for my partner and we were passing an AD so popped in. I like a large watch on a woman and so thought the 36 would be perfect. She hated it, and in fairness it was simply too big for her (who knew!). She said she wanted the 28! But when we tried it she agreed it was just too small. DJ31 was the one that fitted her best and so the moral of that story is without the AD visit, I would have bought her a 36 and she would have chosen a 28. We were both wrong.

Another vote for DJ 31mm.

I had similar thoughts for my significant other and went back and forth. The 31mm is perfect for daily wear.

For her 40th this year I got her the 37mm YM in rose gold on oysterflex. It’s great for occasional wear, but for daily use, 31mm is perfect.

My wrist measures 5 3/4 in and I went with 36mm date just in white gold, fluted, jubilee, black dial with diamonds. Tried on 31 and it looked small. Very pleased with decision.

Nope. Very pleased with 36. Not too big. However, for my iWatch wished I got bigger size. 40mm in that seems small.

She would have to be pretty small and over 50 to desire a 31mm. If she is fashionable, under 50, then I would get her the 36. The 36 is not a big watch by any means.
