My wife has a 31 DJ with fluted/jubilee/diamond dial for more dressy occasions and a 36 OP for daily/work in the house and garden. She likes both of them and they look good on her either way. The OP is more practical that it has a larger luminous dial that is easy to read.

My lady used to lean towards the larger pieces (wouldn’t even consider anything smaller than 24) but after dailying a vintage DJ26 for a while she really prefer the ergonomics of a smaller pieces.

I'd go for the 36mm OP, it's trendy and looks good. My wife has 31mm and I'll be looking for a 36mm for her next.

For years women in Italy (and most of Europe) have been wearing 36mm DJ and 40mm sport Rolexes. They rock it. It looks great. The many times I've been there, I've never seen a small watch on a woman's wrist.

Small ladies watches are quite out of fashion now, certainly for a younger lady.
Most womens watches for sale in the UK (my gf's incl) are between 34-36mm. |

My wife is 5”7 , slim build and she wears and prefers the 26 Looks great and it is totally “ her” Your wife should get whatever she likes most. 4 years ago on this forum the Daytona was too small and considered a ladies watch. Now...... don’t be afraid to set your own sense of style.

Trust her preference. My wife was wearing a tiny omega constellation before I got her an air king. She thought it was big at first but grew to love it very quickly, having never gone back to the Omega. Last year, I got her a 2 line 14060 and that has become her favorite daily. She wouldn't go bigger than that, and while I sometimes think it might look big on her small wrist, she loves wearing it in rotation with the blue air king.

OP here...Again, thanks for all the replies.
I went back to my AD today to discuss things. They have a 36mm TT Datejust with the pearl face and diamond markers. A very beautiful watch and the one I know she will love. I'll probably pick it up on Friday. |

Another vote for the 36mm
Full disclosure: I'm over 50, petite and with skinny little stick wrists...I LOVE my 36mm date just. It's easier to read, will hold value better, and IMHO looks SO much more stylish than the little watches my mom always wore....

I think a 36mm is the perfect dress, and casual watch for a man. For a woman, in my opinion, it’s too big. A DJ is simple, and a watch that doesn’t scream “ attention.” Keep it simple. Anything smaller than a 36m, is more appropriate.

Well, that might change. Thinking more of getting the champagne face with stick markers now as a daily wearer.
The pearl and diamonds face is $4800 more and she commented she would only want to wear it on special occasions. My AD has both in stock. We'll see. |

Agreed, I've seen younger fashinistas make a larger watch work, but in most cases IMHO it just looks gaudy and "look at me". I don't see a 31mm as 'tiny'.

My wife traded her 31 for a 36
She loves it. She also wears a small cartier tank, a bulgari serpenti, a small bedat and a 40mm panerai. 5ft6 and thin with small wrists. Get the 36

Just closing up this thread...
We just came home from the AD with a new 36mm Datejust. Perfect size for her and she loves it. Thanks to all who responded and helped with this decision. |

Suggest just ask her which she likes best, without giving your opinion.

Great choice! It's beautiful. I just bought a 34mm vintage for my 5 inch wrist and am so glad I saw this post.

I’ll go 31mm. Anything larger in my opinion, would look gaudy. Like Paul7 said. Less is more in my book.

Both are nice watches. And of course she should get the one that speaks to her.
However, you might want to consider that size is not the only difference between these two models. They also have different movements. A DJ 36 has a caliber 3235 movement with a power reserve of 70 hours. A DJ 31 has a caliber 2236 movement with a power reserve of 55 hours. Obviously, times have changed and Rolex has done wonders with their new moments. But a Rolex trained watchmaker I use to talk with a lot was of the opinion that smaller caliber Rolex perpetual movements were not as robust, particularly with regard to winding action. He attributed this to the size and weight of the operative parts. Not sure if he was correct. And not sure if that still holds true. But I would note that Rolex lists the 2236 as having a shorter power reserve than the 3235. And if memory serves, these are both latest generation movements. Kudos to you for putting the time into this decisions making process.

Sorry, did not see that she had decided. Great choice and great movement!
