This is going to sound silly, but I tend to find these price increases and non-availability have me enjoying my piece less. I worry about having it stolen or damaged and then not being able to find a replacement even with insurance, and end up leaving it in the safe deposit box more often. Whereas with commodified pieces, I am more free to just wear and enjoy.
Oh, haha, I missed those. I haven't seen one for a long time, but then again I don't scour the For Sale section religiously. If I did I'd be broke.

I don't think that sounds silly. As the value of a piece skyrockets it's natural to perceive it as more "precious." I've been the same way in the past, most recently with my ceramic Daytona, which is nowhere near the red-hotness of 5711's and possibly soon 15202's.

wow, that is actually saying a lot!
given the listing price, i'd have to imagine it sold above retail...for a 2014 model!

What about the discontinued 15300? Where are prices headed on these?

Wow, that's crazy! DSW really seems to be the market maker.

I'm getting the itch now to put my 15202 back in the safe to preserve its pristineness...

He does seem to have an excellent grasp on where prices are headed. Of course, that is his job

I think above all else the man has an extensive list of wealthy clientele who are comfortable doing business with him and as such he gets a premium.

If these guys at EWC get the premiums they post then wow they really have the client list. Then there's govberg etc.

I'm sure he can just say look at the UK, we are a few months behind, so he can literally see the future.

The 15202 isn't where the 5711 is...yet. its on the come though. I'd say in another couple of years it'll be in the 40's. That said who knows where the 11 will be by then.

I never warmed up to the 5711.
It’s a bit too simple in design and dial.
5980 is a different story.

15202 and 15400 are superior in every way in my opinion to the 5711.
If they made the Royal Oak in one size and two color dials it would smoke the Nautilus in sales. People are chasing the hype with 5711, it’s a lot harder to get something when there are less options.

Only recently has there been a divergence in desire, before that they were pretty evenly matched across the board, but the Patek name is undoubtedly stronger now.
