I have had a Tom Tom XLS since 2008 and it is pretty accurate.

One caveat (at least on my Tom Tom) - booting up the unit "cold" sometimes takes 5-6 minutes (sometimes more) to acquire the GPS coordinates and your location. Not good performance if you have arrived somewhere and plug your GPS into your rental car and trying to find your coordinates quickly.

Are you still thinking about this, Raf?? It's obviously the Garmin Nuvi, so go out and get one and stop fooling around and being wishy-washy, you old coot!

Although... I DO like the Wing Finder!!!

For the car: The tomtom have good routing, not bad maps, and are regularly updated with their software. In general I am quite pleased with my older GO 710.

For the boat: The garmin plotter was very good.

After 2 days searching and reading,I finally chose the Garmin 1390T with lifetime traffic and nuMaps(Garmin maps for life of the GPS).
I wanted the voice command but being from Puerto Rico,it wouldn't recognize my voice 'cause of my accent!

Yeah, you have to give it something more difficult to work with than that. However, you could come up, and use some other routes than the main roads. You'll probably get tired of it telling you "Rerouting" all the time, though!

I just did My UK trip with a Garmin Nuvi, I uploaded the UK Maps before I went It worked like a charm, I even set it to the British ACCENT for nostalgia,s sake I have North America and the UK installed so its good to loan visitors.

Yeah, that's a good idea, 'cause you'll probably drop it during one of your binges, and break it into a million pieces, you old coot!!!

I was really impressed with it to tell you the truth, I uploaded all trip locations while in the USA. Once we picked up the rental I fired it up picked the country and recent routes and we were on a roll

Exxxxxcellent, Paul! I'm taking my iPhone, and I have a GPS app on it for walking around London and for emergencies, but we want a dedicated GPS unit to handle the "heavy lifting", so to speak. After a LOT of evaluation, I have narrowed it down to the Garman Nuvi, but I just haven't yet decided on which model.

We've got plenty of time (not going until late May of 2011), but my wife has been after me about getting it now, so she can play with it and get accustomed to how it works. I will be driving, and she is always the navigator. She's good at maps (a whiz, actually), but knowing the British roads and the dreaded "roundabouts", we KNOW that the GPS will make the driving experience much more pleasant.
