Just purchased my first Tudor (BB36 S&G)
I recently joined the forum in anticipation of purchasing my first Tudor.
First off, sorry for the long post. I guess I am just excited about my new watch. I am extremely partial to 36mm watches and a few weeks ago I was at Watches of Switzerland in Northern New Jersey and tried on the 36mm Explorer. The watch seemed perfect to me and felt right on my wrist but figured I couldn't handle the cost of it. The AD walked me over to the Tudor display and had me try on the Ranger. I didn't care for the larger size so he asked me to try the Black Bay 54 which was 37mm and I wasn't crazy about it. When I got home, I decided to do a little Tudor research and found the Black Bay 36 in silver and gold which really spoke to me. On EBay I found a current model listed for $3700 USD buy it now from a grey market dealer and it also had the make an offer button on it. I figured I had nothing to lose by offering $3,500. I did and received no reply. Then I offered $3,600 and it was denied and the dealer raised his price to $5000. Okay, I figured on more try. I offered $4,000 with a message to the dealer that I guess I missed out on the $3,700 offer but this was as high as I could go. At this point I was definitely kicking myself for not doing buy it now when I had the chance. The dealer messaged me back that he sold out of his watches which is why he raised the price but accepted my $4,000 offer and said he was getting another one in a couple of days. On Friday, I received the watch and it looked better in person than it did in pictures. I removed one link and had an issue screwing the pin back in so I brought it to a local person to finish the job for me and remove one more link. The watch is perfect for me. The gold is pretty understated so it really can be worn with anything and the bit of gold works with my gold wedding band. I saw more BB36s in Silver and Gold which were the older versions but I prefer the newer version. The jubilee type bracelet is extremely comfortable and the T fit clasp works great with my wrist that changes sizes throughout the course of the day. The feel of clicks when winding the in house movement is unlike any other watch that own. I also prefer the new crown (without the crown tube) and lollipop seconds hand. My next favorite watches that I own are a Christopher Ward 36mm Sealander and a Longines 36mm VHP Conquest so this is my most expensive watch to date. Maybe one day I will splurge to get a 36mm Explorer but for now I am pretty happy. |
