14060m Purchase

Hi all,

I am looking to organise a trip to purchase this two liner 14060m. The watch is missing its caseback but I intend to get it replaced with a service.

It is a P serial dating to around 2000. From my research, this watch should have luminova with the Swiss Made dial. Movement appears correct to me.

Images aren't that good but here they are: https://imgur.com/gallery/tatpX

Any comments welcome. Thank you.

I would look for another one unless you're getting a really great deal on this one.

I am getting a really good deal - less than half of what I would pay on here.

There's a chance that your local RSC won't sell you a caseback without turning the old one in, or at least without a darned good explanation. They wouldn't even sell me springbars without the old ones in exchange.

Those pics are blurry. Throw in a missing caseback and too cheap to believe? Why are you even considering it?

If it turns out to be legit and at a great price, no need to find a factory case back, he can just use one of those TP sapphire case backs.

A caseback from eBay will do it. I suggest you find a caseback before purchasing

The pics are not great but nothing alarming can be seen, proceed with caution checking it again when you have the watch, if you do not have the skills use a professional. You can obtain a caseback if your patient.

Doesn't pass my sniff test. And you're sure this isn't stolen? How are you going to bring it in for service.

Thanks everyone for their comments. I am rolling the dice and going through with the purchase. I have a good relationship with my AD so sourcing parts won't be an issue.

Regarding the comments of the watch possibly being stolen, I guess it is a risk all of us take when buying second hand Rolex. Who's here to say that our most trusted dealers are selling stolen watches unbeknownst to them?

Thanks again all :)

Trusted dealers don't sell stolen watches. If they did they wouldn't be "trusted". They have a name and a reputation to protect that's worth more than a couple K.

It has happened unknowingly and the issue has sometimes taken years to surface.

I would suggest that o does his due diligence and find the answers to any questions that he had.

If the watch is kosher Thomas can shoot him a clear caseback and he can have it serviced by an Indie.

Consider the life that some vintage Rolex watches have endured.

If the threads are . . .

. . . damaged or cross-threaded in the case-back, you'll have the fanciest fishing weight ever.

I doubt Rolex will re-tap threads . . .

Watch looks all OK.
I suspect that you will need to send it to Rolex for a full service and that then they will fit a new case back (at a cost)

PS
Ask the seller to screw on another case back just to prove no cross threading
