Opinions on a 5513 Bart Simpson

Hi,

I'm looking at a 5513 Bart Simpson. Seller normally doesn't handle Rolex, so not much info on the watch other than that it had its movement serviced at ABC last year. To me it looks spot on, possibly reluming of hands though?

So this thread saved the Op some money. Sad how many people are out there to scam honest people.

Wow. This is nuts - and NO I haven't done any transaction yet (thank god!). I'll be back.

Edit: I've reached out to seller, which from different sources seemed to be a good guy.

If it is any consolation, it is a wonderful piece. You would have loved it!

Two possible explanations.

1) Seller is a scammer.

2) Mrs. Q is sick and tired of Mr. Q paying more attention to his watches than to her and is getting rid of the competition.

How do I best share the scammer's information? I have names, bank information and address information.

Definitely post ALL the info you have on the person. This way when people search to see if the person is legit using their bank info and e-mail information, etc., this thread will pop up and they will know to watch out. At best you will help another buyer out, and at worst the scammer will have to make a new account and cover.

A lot of scammers masquerade as trusted sellers using email addresses with one off names, or different server addresses.

Example, people using the same first name but different server: [email protected] instead of [email protected].

Example 2, people use slightly different first names: [email protected] or [email protected] instead of [email protected].

Thus, you may think it is a trusted seller, and you may contact people and get amazing feedback, but you aren't really dealing with the trusted seller, but instead a scammer using a trusted seller's feedback.

1) Always ask the person to send a picture of the watch set to two different times of your choosing.

2) If it is a trusted seller, go to the person's website and contact the person there, or check the e-mail address on multiple forum feedbacks and contact him/her through the main e-mail address he/she uses to confirm (or to warn the real seller about what is happening).

Number one eliminates scammers who don't have the watch immediately. Number two allows you to confirm it is the trusted seller if you aren't sure of the watches provenance. Still, better to get a consensus from a few experts about an expensive piece. Sometimes experts can be wrong based on pictures, or, sadly, more interested in you buying a piece from him/her, or his/her circle, than from another seller.
