Missed my SO, So had to replace it

I have been missing my SO 42's a lot this year. Some time back I had this brilliant idea of simplicity in my life. Going to buy another Rolex and be back to a one watch guy. This after wearing Breitling Superocean's for years. With zero complaints I might add.

So purchased a Rolex in October of 2020 new from a AD. Watch had mechanical issues right from the start. Okay, it happens. So finally returned it and got a nice little DJ. Life is good.

I then gifted 95% of my entire collection to relatives. Then the Second Rolex started acting up. So after many, MANY trips back for repair and waiting weeks/ months to get it back I started buying other brands. I enjoyed them and learned a lot 1st hand. Rolex started giving fits...... again. Enough of that and sold it.

I tried to enjoy other brands, and did. But something was missing. No bond like I had with my old standby Breitling.

I thought I was getting to long in the tooth to enjoy a dive watch again. Thinking that those days are long gone. But noticed some guys older than me sporting Subs, Doxa, Superocean and Planet Ocean's. Then it dawned on me, okay I don't dive anymore, but what's to stop me from enjoying my favorite watch I have ever owned?, Well the answer is...Nothing!.

So after some deliberation, I almost ran to my AD to get one. Happy feeling the moment I strapped it on. Brought back a lot of joy filled memories. I guess it's never to late and your never to old to enjoy one's favorite watch.

The new black on black rubber with the red chapter ring version looks really cool. Only bad thing is it's only available online and these can usually be had with discounts elsewhere.

I'm really digging the yellow chapter ring version. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice one. Total summer beach vibes! I am close to pulling the trigger on this one. Not a big fan of the large 3, 6, 9 markers, but the white dial kinda camouflages them.

White dial looks good.

Are they still using the ETA 2824-2 movement?

I have the blue and it’s an absolutely fantastic watch. It’s just so simply perfect. My son has the orange.

Yes. As we know it is a very robust movement. This watch is a great value if you get a good discount from AD or buy pre-owned.

Hey Wayne just stumbled across this thread for the first time. The Superocean is a terrific watch and totally makes sense to get another one. One of the best looking divers out there. I think legibility is really important in watches and not many do it better than this one in day or night. The lume is amazing. They didn't play games with the hands so they are big and easy to read.

I've considered picking one up several times. The reason I haven't .... I really want a no-date version of this watch with a big #3 printed on the dial. Not sure why they haven't released one. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there with this complaint.

Congratulations on the watch! Have you, or are you planning to, add the black rubber Breitling strap??? Man that looks fantastic with that watch, black dial in particular.

I am right there with you on wanting a no date version. I think having a "3" in place of the date would look very balanced. I have come so close to getting one and I have even received a good AD referral contact from another member here in the Breitling section () but I haven't taken the steps yet because of the date. Otherwise the dial is fantastic and looks great in all colors. I have been trying to get the 41mm submariner for a year now and that has also given me pause. I want to get the sub first and spend some time with that one before I branch out into this.

Any recommendations on a good AD for SO 42 in Houston that can give a reasonable discount?

I would call Richard at Saltzman's in Newport RI. Reasonable discounts and no sales tax if shipped.

Pic for good measure…
Going back on the bracelet for a while after I locate spring bars.
I do recommend the Barton silicon strap. Quick release pins and good quality for the price.

I am looking currently to acquire the blue/white as a grad gift for my son. His first quality watch. I will be jealous of him, forever!

I've never actually owned a SuperOcean but it's on my radar! I personally lean toward the more vintage SO Heritage line but I don't mind the newer ones too.
