Hello from Perth, Western Australia
Hi everyone.
I have put through several posts about various questions, thank you all for the feedback and advice. I am convinced that my first Rolex will be a Milgauss, unless my financial situation does a 180, and make me able to afford anything. Still I believe no country is more expensive for a Rolex than Australia. Between 9-12k for a brand new Milgauss !! Today I tried on a new Milgauss, and convinced it would be a highly suitable watch for a first Rolex. It feels fantastic when it's on. I like the lightning bolt hand. I was hoping AD's would have product knowledge on what they were selling. Is it standard for AD's to have less knowledge than the customers ? She doesn't even know if any part of the face is luminous, and all one needs is to look at it. Is it something I should bring forward to Rolex ? You'd think people should have decent product knowledge with items of this calibre. I am sure 95% of you guys know more about the Milgauss than this AD. I kept asking questions, most of them were answered, check on their website. Without a doubt I am a painful customer to deal with, not because I won't part with money, but... it's bad enough to be messed about with misinformation, and insufficient information. The other AD gives the impression that he knows a lot, but much of the information is misinformation. I don't like the shops in Perth that sell the second hand Rolexes, they are merely 10% cheaper and look all smudged, dirty, full of fingerprints, I mean come on at least make the effort of polishing it with a cloth. I probable wouldn't mind buying a useful Rolex guide, but the ones they had in the second hand shop were several years old, and had very little useful info. Nothing I couldn't find or appreciate from reading off the web. There are some very nice guides that have been released lately, but would have to be ordered online from overseas. I am 95% convinced to travel overseas and buy the Milguass there, I'd should be able to save 20%. It would be obviously a great money saver to buy second hand, but I don't want any flaws, scratches, if I am going to spend that much money on a Rolex. It would cost me about $1000 to get anything done on it. Feel free to say hello. |

Welcome !!!
Have you had a chat with these guys, http://www.theswisswatchbox.com.au/, they are in Perth too. I spoke to them re a 1964 Sub (my birth year), and they seemed quite knowledgeable. They have a gentle used white dial Milgauss on their site. |

Thanks for the welcome, guys
Hi Caryyee.
Thanks for the suggestion of the Swiss Watch Box from your PM. I checked the store yesterday, and they stocked the used Milgauss, it was full of fingerprints and looked a little dirty. Quite ordinary for a watch that is only $1000 cheaper than brand new. |

Here's a few pics of my Milgauss GV that I took this afternoon, it oozes quality yet doesn't shout out 'Rolex' .... and perfect sleeper :)

Hi i'm from sydney and completely agree with you about overpricing in australia that's why i travelled to HK to get mine i saved over $2K on my SubC $2200to be exact, but had to pay for the airfare to get there. Maybe buy from one of the trusted sellers here on TRF

Hello guys, thanks for the feedback.
Thanks caryyee for the photos. It was convincing enough to wear one yesterday, it's a no-brainer. My next watch will be a Milgauss. I believe I'd save at least 2.5k by buying it from a Singapore AD. I'll see how I go :) Two questions caryyee : 1. Is it worth putting a sticker/patch on the back of the Milgauss for extra comfort (i.e. so it doesn't slip at all on the wrist) ? 2. How loud is the ticking when the room is completely silent ? |

If you bought a brand new one, it will have protective stickers on the back that prevent the bracelet from marking the case, you can leave those ones on if you like. I usually wear my watches a little loose, but I find that my wrist gets a little sticky anyway (as it can't breath while underneath a chunk of metal lol) and the watch doesn't really move around after it's been on the wrist for 10 mins.
The ticking isn't noticeable unless you specifically listen to it, and even then you have to strain to hear it. My watch is either next to my pillow or left on my wrist when I sleep, and it's never been noticeable. And when I do listen for it, it's a soothing sound anyway :-) |

Thanks for the welcome, guys
Hi, I feel like an outsider not owning one haha.
I have a lot of work to do, I see several carrots dangling in front of me, and rewards that will come if I come good within the next 5-6 weeks. Firstly working smarter, and more efficient will be a much needed momentum booster if I am ever going to get a Rolex. I have a collection that I must sell, they are going up in value every year, but I never use them anymore, so they will definately get me that Milgauss. I just know when I put it on, everything I do, every thought process, perhaps like the Green Lantern with the ring haha. If I take it off, I can be a dumbass again (I'm just kidding guys). I wouldn't wear any watch, whilst playing tennis obviously, but when I think about the Rolex commercial (Roger Federer, the main Rolex theme), I immediately server an ace. I can go to that well only so many times a night. In addition to all that I hit a major milestone age-wise, not that it should be a reason to buy a Rolex, it's not that much of an achievement). So the timing of everything else will be a nice bonus. I just hope the ticking sound is very very nice :) I looked at the other models, they are very nice pieces obviously, but the Milgauss stands out for me (in terms of that price range). I'd never use a stop watch, I would never get wet, let alone dive 3900 metres hehe. The date and day of the week is a very nice thing to have on a watch, but... I can live without it. The look, feel, weightiness is much more important, which I worn a Milgausss at the AD. It's like meeting a very beautiful woman who has very limited availability. Full of finess, sophistication, nice build, nice and weighty, strikes me down like a lightning bolt. Stop laughing already : |
