Bob’s Watches: Any experience selling to them?

I’m in the process of selling my 16613 bluesy D-serial in excellent condition. No dings except one in the crown and nothing by fine scratches in the bracelet. It doesn’t have papers but it has most everything else (triple box, red tag, owner and service manual, all links, cleaning cloth, etc.). At first they offered me $5500. Recently that went up to $6000. Should I take this or could I sell privately for significantly more? Also has anyone had any experience selling to them? Thanks in advance.

I've heard stories of them offering good Money and then when the Watch comes in they start low balling You since they think You don't want the Headache of making them send the Watch back....Not my personal experience.

you can probably get a couple thousand more if you sell it yourself.

Paul Allen's business model is to buy low and sell low. I believe that is all you need to know.

I they haven't seen watch yet you have no offer.

After some of the threads I have read I wouldn't bother with them.

Thanks, everyone. I figured as much. There’s always a price for convenience. I’ll be posting in the for sale section in a few weeks.

I guess I'm in the minority but I personally think $6k is a very strong offer from a dealer, assuming they don't try to negotiate down after receiving it. You might do 10-15% better selling privately but the lack of warranty paper is going to prevent a top-dollar sale. Can you send them additional photos or something to lock in a more firm offer?

I don't think it's as much about the price as it is the concern for a possible bait and switch.

Selling to a dealer is convenient and secure, but always with the knowledge that they will then resell at a significantly higher price.

In that context, and lacking papers, I agree the deal's not a bad one if it's a solid offer. The concern is that once Bob's has the watch in their possession, the actual offer will be significantly less. Additional photos won't get a more binding commitment, it's always contingent on physical inspection.

Bob's seems to have a reputation here for downward revisions of their offer upon inspection. Whether that's true, justified, or part of their business plan I can't comment.

Anybody who pulls a bait and switch is a weasel. Plain and simple. If the watch is not to the dealers liking condition-wise, then he doesn’t have to buy it. Too many people think they can get away with low balling people. They are reprehensible and deserve not being dealt with...ever.

This is their MO, they offer you a nice price pending inspection. Once the watch is received, they pick the hell out and basically offer you a new lowball offer. Bob's (Paul) has also had several "employees" or whatever in the last few weeks on here posing as sellers and selling for him through several different alias, of which several have been banned. Seems shady to me.....

You join here yesterday, then resurrect an 18+ month old thread with a thinly veiled prop like that? Suspicious to me.

This was my experience three years ago when they made me an offer then lowballed me after receiving the watch. I told them to send my 16710blro back, they then changed their mind and gave me what they initially said they would.
