LR just doesn't get it.

The tread is deemed informative, educational (and entertaining?), therefore the mods will never take it down.

The tread will leave it up for people to make their judgments based on what happened.

Some think LR did well resolving this issue, and some (cynically) question this overcomplicated deal.

That's that. Welcome to information age. Don't respond and the tread will drop.

On a forum for owners and buyers of vintage Rolex, is it cynicism or reasonable due diligence to ask questions of one who wishes to set his stall out as a high end dealer and watch writer, especially if a deal has unravelled messily?

In any such cases, do the answers given (or omitted) regarding the watch, the circumstances of the transaction or the dealer himself satisfy?

Some seem quite happy with all that they have read here. I have hoped from the outset that LR could provide more answers. He is apparently too tired of the thread to do so, which is a shame if he is as sound as some think.

I do think the right PR moves for LR should have been:

1) Apologize and admit mistake if there is no convincing evidence that the dial is 100% original.
2) Clarify the "buyer got refund from Bob Maron" part.
3) And stop asking mods to take down the thread. It makes people think you want to cover it up.

Not sure why LR decided to open a new account to discuss this issue, but I'll give hime the benefit of the doubt and just ban his first account instead of both.

According to the rules:

10. Only one user active account is allowed on forum at any one time, any member registering and knowingly using two accounts could face a instant ban.

I agree and think it's a shame that the OP won't come on to tell us exactly how the deal ended.

I specially would have loved to hear RM's explanation to the appraisal.

If someone were to say this would that qualify as being throwed under the bus?

I agree.

When dishonest dealers are involved you can't warn enough and I think it deserves being talked about.

Hopefully Luke Rottman who says he's eager to protect his reputation can come back and show us some?

I will do whatever I wish to do with this watch. I could have the dial authenticated (by Rolex, who knows little about their own vintage watches!) and resell, I could put it on my wrist to keep, I could even give it away for free at the Miami Beach Antique Show tmmrw morning! What I do with it is absolutely none of your business. I do not wish to write any longer. Thank you to all of those who participated in this thread. Hopefully the moderator will come to his senses and remove this thread. Just too tired of it.

And with that response I suspect you just lost the goodwill you developed in providing the refund and handling this transaction the way you did. You have been put on notice by some very experienced vintage collectors that it may be refinished. If you do not confirm one way or the other and just sell it as all original again then you are not anyone I would do business with. Don't shoot yourself in the foot on something so silly.

Reading this tonight was some of the best entertainment I have had in weeks!! I was on the sellers side for a while but he really talked me out of ever considering doing business with him as this went on.. I would have loved to have seen better pics of the dial as well as it really does look wrong to my eye..

Luke Rottman (founder and executive editor of www.thewatchadviser.com) has apparently logged into the forum today.

As this thread has been the focus of his 18 posts so far (under that name, at least) one might reasonably think that he has checked in to see what is being said about him and that 6202.

If all those who were satisfied with the explanations (such as they were) have now stopped checking this thread, perhaps the many who were not can wait and hope that further detail is forthcoming.

If someone wants to be a dealer or credible writer in the world of higher-end Rolex, especially if they embrace the internet, they might expect accountability to be sought when it hits the fan on a relevant forum. Being "too tired" to respond to reasonable questions on a continuing thread about yourself and a high value watch you supplied might not cut it for many. It puzzles me.

I would love to see a response that dispelled any negative conclusions, which may be all that many are left with at this moment.
