Hi, I wonder if any of you could help, I had my day-date delivered today, it’s a reference 118238 from 2006, upon close inspection I’ve realised it seems to have the brushed lugs of the 18238 model, All the paperwork matches that of the 118238 and I did purchase from a very reputable dealer however I’m wondering if the watchmaker they sent it to for service perhaps put the wrong finish on the lugs. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Are you sure this isn't a pieced together watch that has a 18238 head and 118238 bracelet? Who did you buy from?

As I say it came with all the paper work of a 118238 but I know they send all their Rolex’s to an independent watchmaker to have a polish etc if necessary and am wondering if indeed some 118238s actually came with brushed lugs or if the watchmaker has perhaps been complacent and put a different finish on the case by mistake

118238 always come with polished lugs.
118238 lugs are wider than 18238, but difficult to tell difference unless side by side in photos. Your watch has a 118238 dial. Sorry cant tell from photo, if your watch case is 118238 but brushed incorrect, or a 18238 with swapped out dial and bracelet. Either way its not correct. |

Wow let us know how you get on as I contacted Stephen Hughes about this exact watch but then got doubts as their pics on chrono24 were quite bad. They also wanted a cash deal and not trade so I stopped at that point.

Did you not review their pics before purchase and notice polished lugs? Not being rude in any sense, I'm just curious what photos they had up prior to purchase.

I did review them and a you can sort of see it but I just didn’t pick up on it until now, I have been looking at so many different Day dates and models to be honest and I just didn’t notice, the thing is when it’s a reputable shop like that you should have confidence in things being correct. I’ll certainly be contacting them tomorrow for sure.

I will do for sure! As you say the photos aren’t the best however there are some more clear pictures of the reverse of the watch which may be coincidence. I’ll give them a call 9am tomorrow and let you know what they say Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wishing you good luck. Hope you get it sorted. If they really did put a 18238 on a 118238 bracelet then that is really bad. But I guess you got to give them a chance to make it right.

Not for nothing but I would not have purchased a pre-owned watch during a pandemic from anyone that I did not previously buy from before.

Thank you! With an albeit crude macro shot on an iPhone you can kind of see at least to my eye that it isn’t meant to be a brushed finish on the case and seems to have been done to a polished case for some reason Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That’s definitely a 6 digit case that was brushed. Look at the profile of the case between the lugs compared to the 5 digit, which is more square where the bracelet attaches. Take the bracelet off and look at the model number on the case

I agree! I think that perhaps there may have been a ding/dent that perhaps they tried to cover by doing this. Either wait fo not state that in the description is wrong and quite misleading IMO Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The first clue is that there are offshore oil wells shallower than the rehaut on that Folex.

So I spoke to them this morning, they explained that indeed it had been given the wrong finish with their service guys and sent a gentleman to collect the watch from me at 10:30 this morning, it was delivered back to me at 12:30 after they personally buffed it back to how it should have looked at the start.

Day-Date 18238 vs 118238
Thank you guys so much!
Of the 118238 models the 0103 Dial configuration is my favourite with that champagne dial and lume inside the hour markers :) makes it so legible in the dark! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Glad you got it sorted. Looks great but I think even the brushed look gave it a touch of class. Either way wear in good health.
