Radar Detectors vs Waze App
I have a Valentine 1 with the latest updates but this thing goes off so much with false alarms here in south florida that its practically useless and I think I will remove it from my car. Also it doesn't go off with law enforcement sitting on the side of the road with a laser gun. Just 3 days ago I downloaded the free Waze app and I'm amazed at how much better this thing is compared to my Valentine 1. Granted you will get busted if there is a cop that no one has reported but so far its been extremely accurate. If you had to choose one over the other which one is better? A top of the line detector or Waze?

I use Waze and find it to be incredibly useful and current. There are always people ahead of you on the road to report in however, it's not really a replacement for a radar detector. I imagine one would complement the other.
As stated in a thread about radar detectors, I find radar detectors annoying and unreliable these days. |

I run both, I'm heavily into speeding as bad ass it is, my new Mercedes I just bought already has jammers and V1 and waze set up. What mode do you run your V1 in? You should turn off X band and K band, only run KA since that's the most common now. And then pick up a set of ALP jammers you will never be caught again unless ur doing something stupid like racing past a cop.

I wouldn't want to have to pick one over the other. Both have their place.
I run a 9500iX and am very happy with it. I use Waze regularly and find it to be very useful as well. A good detector and Waze compliment each other very well. I don't have a very heavy foot but I do want to know when there are speed traps in my vicinity. I call it "situational awareness". |

Anyone who says anything negative about Escort, either is lying or just doesn't know how to use it properly. I've had mine now for 4 years, and whip it hasn't saved me from every ticket it has helped 80-90% of the time. Although, it isn't a free pass to speed, just a reminder to keep myself in check. Mine does K, Ka and Ku. Plus it has built in GPS, and helps to eliminate false alarms as well. I love mine.

Correction on my post. Not as "badass" as it is. Should be "As bad as it is". And yes laser jammers fall into a grey area of the law, light is regulated by the FDA, so technically they aren't illegal, it's more of interfering with the police is what's illegal.

Get that done at Custom Radio, Tom? When I was there getting robbed for $1400 for my wife's remote starter, I seen that one there. I considered it, but bought the windshield version instead. Cars are almost like watches for me, they may only last a very short time. Didn't wanna take the chance of buying, installing, uninstalling and reinstalling had my car not worked out for me.

I use Waze on 95 and on Alligator Alley and have found it very useful. The only time I got stopped was by a State Trooper in heavy traffic on I-75 who told me my sticker was out of date. When I told him it was a rental car, he told me to inform the rental company that not only was the sticker out of date, but the registration was for a different car. He then let me go.

I like Waze for what it does but uninstalled it from my phone during a fit of paranoia.
Is anyone concerned about all the personal information it demands?

Since my i got my Mustang GT and went nuts with Ford Racing parts...the Cobra radar detector has saved my ass 3-4 times in the past 3 months. I was doing about 100-105 on I-10 Sat and it went off and I hit the brakes and sure enough a mile up the rode hiding was TDPS trooper....and slid by around 65. |

I'm a big fan of waze. I use it every day. Have no need for radar detectors. I go as fast as the fastest car ahead of me giving them just enough room to trigger a speed trap and for me to slow down. Haven't had a speeding ticket since I was a teenager.

Well, she HAS to have a starter according to her... MB's need a special $1100 unit, plus $200 for the iPhone app subscription, plus install. Good thing is, if she gets another MB, she can reinstall it in the new one. Otherwise, I may just be getting a preowned starter for my Benz

I just try to be the 2nd fastest car on the road, let the guy ahead of me get the ticket. I use Waze, not concerned about them knowing where I am or how fast I am going.

The best piece of advice I've seen. One of the few times it pays to be #2.

True, but if people stop breaking the law, I'm out of work.

Radar Detectors vs Waze App
I have been looking at a radar detector and even created a Poll a few weeks ago; http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=454924
Been using Waze for a few weeks and I like it. Good GPS and the community is working to keep each other out of trouble. Still considering buying a Valentine One... Drive Safe Out There!

Back in my high school / post high school years cb radio was pretty popular and many of us had them in the car. On the highway you knew the location of every police car and the moment one would enter or exit a highway. It was better than any radar detector.
Heh, nowadays there is no need for such things.. I pretty much just stick to the speed limit / keep up with traffic in the middle lanes. |

Are you swapping over from BMW, or did you mean me? If you are, which model are you thinking? If you meant me, I already have one, and can highly recommend the CLS63 even though I do seem to chew up a new set of Mich PSS tires every year, lol.
