Queen Elizabeth II
I am not sure if there are any Royalists on TRF (and I am fairly agnostic) but I think that HM Queen Elizabeth II is a simply amazing woman. Anyone who can reign for 60 years and still be going strong, looking wonderful and maintaining the palpable sense of dignity she does, deserves my respect.

Picked up a hint of sadness in her eyes today on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, without Prince Philip at her side.

No offense, but the whole diamond jubilee thing seems excessive & antiquated. The royal family reminds me of a bunch of cyborgs.

No offence taken (the different spellings of offence/offense show we can agree to differ!), but Her Majesty is a unifying factor for many here. Elements of the Royal Family are not the greatest examples of this country, but the Queen is a different breed.

There was really no need, if you didn't have anything good to say you could have not said anything. I believe that the reason the Jubilee wasn't mentioned before was because posts such as yours always occur, the royal wedding was similar decried here. The whole thing IMHO gave the UK a feel good factor in these hard times.

There's a great new Jon Stewart clip where he rips on CNN for their diamond jubilee coverage, specifically how they're ignoring other breaking news items that actually have substance so that CNN hacks can drone on about a rained-out parade. (I'd post the link or the clip but stuff from comedycentral is a pain in the butt to post sometimes.)

Let's just nip this discussion in the bud before it gets overly antagonistic.
