Dj41 back from service (bracelet and bezel replaced)

So, a few months ago I posted about how my datejust got all scuffed up and wanted to give an update on it. I recently picked it up from my AD and have to say, it looks brand new. Here are some gut wrenching pics of it before i sent it in and a pic of it with the rest of the collection the day I got it back.

Wow! Looks great. Was that from a motorcycle or bike fall or something? Looks like serious road rash.

Actually, my brother wore it on a “night out” and had no recollection of how it happened. It took two and a half months and 2,400 euros to get it back in this condition once I had sent it out. On the bright side, I did get a free rolex travel pouch out of it

OMG that's even worse. I'm going to take a wild guess and say alcohol might have been involved

Guess the message here is when doing a "night out" leave the Rolex "in" for the evening

Or, don't loan it out.

Precisely
My Mum always used to say "don't lend your car or your firearms to anybody. Just as you wouldn't lend your wife".
I suppose we could perhaps add expensive watch to the list

I don't loan my car, watch or anything else because for the most part the person you lent it to doesn't take care of it as you would. I remember when I was a teenager and bought a real nice pair of shoes and a friend of mines was going out on a special occasion and asked to borrow the shoes. Well, when I got them back they looked like he ran a marathon in a snow storm. Had to trash them... I learned my lesson real young.

I understand the concerns people have about loaning out “expensive things”, but would like to offer up a different philosophy on the topic. If the person you are loaning something out to is VERY close to you and has consistently demonstrated high levels of trustworthiness and responsibility throughout your relationship, I cant see why you wouldn’t trust them with a watch.

Watches are meant to be enjoyed, and you can only really wear one watch at a time. The prospect of leaving one of my watches at home “unloved” is somewhat unsettling to me. My brother is also interested in watches, and having him enjoy the collection and hobby with me is rewarding on its own. This coupled with the fact that he demanded to cover the full cost of repairing the watch only further added to the lack of regret i had in loaning him the watch that night.

Good point.
However alcohol was involved and that can change things significantly on a number of levels despite the outcome.
I suppose it depends upon one's tolerance levels.

Yeah, if alcohol is involved, moderation and caution should definitely be practiced and taken into account. Taking a tumble would be the least of my concerns in that case. Being that inebriated would put you at a much higher risk of getting your watch stolen off of your wrist, especially in big cities.

Just out of curiosity and since I’m a huge car guy, what is the model of the classic car that you own?

My father refers to this as "sidewalk surfing"....and your watch shows he had one hell of a wipeout!

Glad you were able to get it fixed, and hope your brother made it right by paying the repair bill.

He was more upset about damaging it than i was and yes; He admitted as such immediately after seeing the damage and transferred the funds to my account immediately after he knew how much it would cost.

Thanks! I honestly have no idea what to add to my collection next because each piece seems to complement the other.
