Seiko 053 diver

Got this one on my birthday today. Initial observations: the blue color is terrific, the watch is NOT too big for my 6.5 inch wrist, the watch is obviously made of better materials than my Turtles, Samurai and 007 and 009. Thank you for the head’s up on the seller and the sale to fellow poster The Natural!

PS: The bezel does align well. I gave it a tap to the left and it appears well aligned to me.

Happy birthday! Enjoy it in good health.

I think it's awesome value for the quality and finishing that you get. A great value proposition for something that is built entirely in-house.

I've been tempted a few times to get one and then to mod it with 62MAS hands from Yobokies or Seiko Parts, as I prefer the look of the original 62MAS over the broad arrow hour hand. I'd also swap out the OEM silicone strap with an Uncle Seiko waffle strap.

Waffle strap in blue is tempting

The OEM rubber strap is comfy, but not sure black band goes with blue watch.

If you do, get the Yobokies hands; I had the Seiko Parts for my SPB051 and the lume was less than desirable compared to the notoriously-excellent Seiko lume on the dial. I've heard the Yobokies hands are much brighter.

The hands are the only downfall of this watch for me; it is excellent in every other way. Unfortunately I sold it to fund my MM300, but I may be in the market for the PADI version or the 053. That blue is amazing. I had a chapter ring issue with the first one that really killed it for me, as well. I will get eyes on it before buying next time...

BTW, Seiko's mid-range of watches with the 6R movements punch well above their class. Mine ran within +6 seconds a day, which for an unregulated movement is pretty dang good. And if I remember correctly, it has a silicon (SPRON 510?) hairspring and the Diashock system in it to help with shock protection. The SPB051/053 have sapphire crystals and are a decent size with reasonable every-day water resistance, and they wear spectacularly on the wrist, whether it's a NATO, a rubber waffle (I like the Uncle Seiko straps), or even the Seiko bracelet it comes with (the clasp had a ratcheting diver's extension similar to the MM300 clasp, if I remember correctly). My opinion, these watches are worth way more than you will pay for them.

Unfortunately none of the hands mention are as bright as the original versions.

Congratulations. That’s a great looking watch - I very nearly picked one up the other day.
