Rodentman's father died
For those who know Bob (Rodentman), he posted that his father just passed away at age 90. He had been ill for a while, and Bob's mother had been caring for him full time.
You can e-mail Bob at: bbookman@charter.net |

Thanks to all of you for your expressions of sympathy. It is difficult, even though we knew the end was near. On the positive side, I now know this forum exists, and I see some old friends whom I have missed!

Bob, I knew you had a lot of friends here, so I wanted to let them know.
We're all here for you. I know there's not much we can do to make you feel better right now, but I'm sure just knowing you have many friends who care about you, and what's happening in your life, probably helps. Peter |

Bob, it's good to see you here, even though it's a tough thing that brought you here. As with everyone else here who knows you, I was sorry to hear of your loss.
As others have said, stick around. You're definitely among friends here.

I am feeling a bit better today since I have concluded that it is better for my Dad to have gone now since had they kept him alive he would have had no quality of life and just lying in a bed somewhere. It would have prolonged the inevitable and made it agonizing for my mother.
It is difficult but isn't it better than sitting here thinking of him clinging to "life" and in pain? My brother is trying to get my mother to come here and then the whole remaining family will be together. It will be a good event. My mother will get to see my sons also, her only grandchildren, ages 25 and 21. |

You have to ask yourself, Bob, what would your dad have wanted? To be as you say "just lying in a bed somewhere" in pain or to be at the end and mercifully pain free? My guess is the latter, but who can know for sure. Take heart from the fact that (I assume) for most of his 90 years he was in good shape and your kids had the benefit of their grandfather for 21 and 25 years. That's more than a lot of people can say.

My condolences to you and your family Bob. But please allow me to say something from my experience (my grandfather passed away 3 years ago at the age of 80 and I was his favourite as he was mine) that I feel is the best way to look at it.
First off your father kicked life's butt, 90 years on this planet is quite a run, when you see how many young children leaving us everyday before their time (I buried a 18 y/o just a couple of months ago) you get to appreciate the gift that we receive each day when we wake up to have our loved ones with us for even just one more day. I don't know you Bob, but I am sure in the all the years with your father you must have at least 100,000 memories or thoughts of him. Is he really gone? I read that he was ill, well like my grandfather a higher power cured him in their way and has brought them to another place, but through the love your family has for him he is not gone, just somewhere else. Please accept my condolences but do not be sad, any pain and suffering he may have had is now gone. To me that is not something to be sad about. Please excuse some of my words as I dont always know how to put into words how I feel about death sometimes. If you need someone to talk to please don't hesitate to contact me. |
