Explorer II Hour hand stack / crooked?
Hey guys,
Just got a 16570 recently and have been scrutinizing it for possible flaws. I noticed that the distance between main hour hand and the dial is extremely close. Is this normal? Also, I think my main hour hand is stacked slightly crooked... Should I worry about hand drag? |

Hour hand is definitely not parallel to the dial. The standard in watchmaking is that all hands must be evenly spaced and perfectly parallel to each other and to the dial. This is a sign of a sloppy watchmaker so I would bring it to a reputable CW21 watchmaker and have this corrected and check for other potential issues. If the last person who touched this watch thought this was acceptable chances are that he may have taken shortcuts in other areas...

...and yes there may be slight friction between hands, this is also another check the watchmaker does before encasing.

The corrosion may be playing a part in your issues. I know Patina is a beautiful thing...

Corrosion? Huh I didn’t notice that. Where at? This is actually a luminova dial Thanks so much for your feedback guys. I think I might send it in for a service soon before wearing it further Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for your feedback! I will definitely have it checked out. Out of curiosity, What are the long term effects if I don’t get this fixed? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not sure on this one, but since the hands need more torque to get moving due to the friction you may get less accuracy, less power reserve... I don't think the opposing force would be such to generate physical damage on the wheels that move the hands but it would be nice to have one of our forum CW21 watchmakers chime in...

Thank you. It’s just frustrating to me that every time I get a pre owned Rolex (even from well known dealers)...there’s always something to knit pick about Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do you have any idea where or by whom it was serviced? Did the seller tell you about the service?

While it is possible for the hour hand to hit the GMT hand, if you didn't notice any hand drag or loss of accuracy then there is nothing to worry about.
Yes it's slightly crooked upwards, yes this is not 100% as it should be, but if it doesn't cause any problems and it is barely visible then please stop worrying about it and start enjoying your nice Explorer. |
