126500 price drop

Just looking at the prices on chrono 24, I am quite surprised to see the prices dropping already on 126500. It was being sold for around £38k and now its down to £33k already (in less than a month).

I recall GMG watches had it around the same mark and it is now reduced as well (I dont know if it is the same watch or not but seems like to be - link below).

https://www.chrono24.co.uk/rolex/rol...id31455186.htm

I am bit surprised at the speed of the drop, new models always start high and then come down but usually over a few months, this is quite a sharp drop from the starting price which I think was not too high to begin with for a watch like this.

Whehter it is happening or not, I think its hard to argue that things are not the same. People do not seem to be willing to pay any asking price even for the highest in demand models.

Yeah, I've been seeing the same price action in the Moda watch group. See my post here from Nov 30: https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...postcount=4892.

And I checked the Moda group the other night as well. The same guy was still trying to sell a 126500LN black dial for the same price, still no takers.

And it's not like the guy is a no-name newbie that everyone avoids. He's actually one of the popular trusted dealers in the Moda group.

Reality starting to set in as the Rolex fever starts to break finally. Those prices couldn't be sustained any more. God for all of us. Maybe start to see inventory in stores at some point. My 2 cents. Cheers!

It is not worth it to buy these at the current prices from the secondary market unless you have money to throw around. With the current state of economy if you are willing to take a hit then go ahead and buy it.

I received a call from a local AD yesterday offering me a White Dial 126500. It was out of the blue. I hadn't talked to him in at least 9 months. He offered it to me if I would trade my 2021 116500 against the new model. I told him that I no longer had the 116500 and he dropped the offer straight away. What surprised me was that he was digging deep to scrounge up someone to leverage big money for the 126500 and he just didn't have buyers readily available coming into the store. They never let them go for MSRP either. Times are changing!

Based on prior experience with them, most likely not. We didn't get that far since I no longer had the trade, but whatever the difference would have been it would have got them current market value on the white 126500.

Once they have his 11 they can sell it used for a huge profit. I don't think it's a matter of not having buyers for white Daytonas as much as it's a shrewd AD looking for the right victim er uh customer to trade with so they can realize his gains while he holds the other bag.

I am hoping that prices of the 126500 keep dropping. I would like to get one for my 60th next year if it makes sense. I know that I'll never get one from an AD and am willing to pay above retail but will not pay 30K plus for a white dial.

Name and shame the AD, that's unreal
I purchased 116500 white dial from AD, it was a very special day for me and between the birth of my 2 children.
It is unfathomable that I would ever receive this call from an AD

I read it as they want to make the 15-20k profit on his old daytona and then let him pay up another big difference to get the new daytona. That's sad behavior from that AD.

Exactly correct based on my prior experience at this location, but the profit on the 116500 (2 yr old Black Dial never worn) would probably be somewhere in the upper 20K range. And don't forget that the 126500 isn't going to be an even trade as part of their deal.

While I probably should have played along and strung out the conversation to see where the offer was going prior to informing them that I no longer had the 116500, my guess was the additional cash would have covered their dealer wholesale cost on the new watch. So, the trade is essentially free to them and when you add the cash difference to the upper $20K resale on the old Daytona they are close to secondary market value on the new model with a white dial.

In the end.... even if I had the old Daytona (and I really like the new model Daytona) I would not have pulled the trigger. Partially because I wouldn't have wanted to part with the funds and have long since grown tired of their negotiation (extortion) tactics.
