Fly Fishing and Rolex!
“A couple of hundred dollars for a fishing pole!?¨ You'll hear that all the time if you don't keep your mouth shut in certain company. You can talk about the aesthetics and even mention a cane rod will appreciate in value while a new graphite rod will depreciate, but the best thing to do is turn around and say, ¨$9,000.00 for a car? I only paid $500.00 for mine.”
John Grierach (Trout Bum) I have enjoyed fly fishing since I finished my first masters! I’m not great, but improving with enthusiasm! While I mainly enjoy trout streams near and around Tennessee, I’ve made a more active attempt to seek out new experiences. I’ve read about every resource on the subject. My rod/reel are reddington, but looking to upgrade. Buying a rod is just about the most intimate thing you can do with your clothes on! You never really know till you get in the water. Every time I bring my Rolex with me. Share your trips, experiences, and gear! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice story!
I started fly fishing just over a year ago as a hobby following my retirement. I’ve enjoyed it immensely, much more than I enjoy playing golf. Unfortunately, I’m not very good at either one of these activities! However, I’m getting better at fishing. Curiously, I often lose 2-4 golf balls per round and now I find I am losing flys about every 4-6 hours I’m on the water! (I stream fish in a very tight area). |

Awesome!
I have been reading the New North American Trout Fishing, a good read. It goes into great detail about trout ecology and behavior. I find it fascinating. |

A good leisure read.
Maybe more about other things rather than fishing, overly complex but genuinely simple. John Gierach -> All Fishermen are Liars

I fly fish saltwater on the flats - sight fishing only for redfish, snook, and trout.
You can easily drop $2000+ on a saltwater fly rod setup. Not counting the flats boats! |

Sweet! I hope they are biting. I have lots of luck with Adams Ant Flies.
0356L2W.jpg Nothing better than landing your fly in the perfect spot on a stream, watching it swirl, float on the water and seeing the flash of a trout going for it!

A wise man once said,"fishing is boring unless you catch a fish, then it's disgusting!!" Just kidding!!! Grew up catching pan fish on an inland lake in Wisconsin, then wallaye fishing on Lake Erie. Teaching my son to fish now, having a difficult time convincing him that every time he throws a line in he won't catch a fish.

Ha. Great contributions.
Finished 66 hours in 6 days, now off for 5. House is boring with boys in school, so I figured what the heck I may run over to the river. So Friday, I will leave the house at 4:45 am. Arrive at 7:15 am, be on the river before 8:00 am. A short 4-6 hour float down the little red river, off the river and home before 16:00 pm. River has been down, less crowded. Hope to chase some beautiful browns. Hope to try out a new fly rod from the shop on the expenditure too.

Nice trout there. I fish a lot but don’t wear my Submariner doing it. Why, because my fishing is all offshore. About ten years ago we were casting diamond jigs to Blue fin tuna in about 5,000 ft of water at the Hudson Canyon. I winded up to sling that jig a good ways to get it into the school boil and let it fly. I watched the jig sail far and with it went my Swiss Army Victoronix. All I could do was watch it go bye bye. Only beater watches on the water for me now.
I haven’t been trout fishing in too long. Maybe tine to hit the streams again they thd Sub can join me. |
