I'm sure one has just crawled up my spine.

I am terrified of spiders.

However that is a great collection Fred and some of them are beautiful....terrifying but beautiful! In fact that House spider looks the creepiest!

J

I hear you, Jim...
and the house spider can not even bit through human skin but they look scary....I agree

...looking forward to giving you some more this coming summer.

Stan.

...curious: does the BROWN widow have an hour glass or just the unique striping???
Stan, I was scanning some of my slides today and I found what I was looking for: the slides with the brown widow and her urn as well as the white widow and her marking.

Her we go:

Brown Widow, Latrodectus geometricus

geo rolexforums.jpg

...and her urn

White Widow, Latrodectus pallidus

...and her marking!

It took me a while, but I hope you enjoy the pictures!!!

So what are the dangers of black widows? when I was growing up my mother would tell me to stay away from them, here in San Diego Fallbrook I run into them in the back yard. I feel bad but I end up crushing them with my Doc Martens.

If you can, bring them away from your house...if they are not in their web, they have a hard time walking...they will never attack! They always try to get away from you. The poison works slowly and it is very painful, but you have 24 hours to get a shot. Healthy adults will have no problems...they are only active at night time!

like in real life, if you are young and fast, you get away...when you get old, they get you!!!!

...but in spider life the males only live for about 6 months, some less...females up to 3 or some 4 years...some tarantulas live 30 years and longer!!! How about that

You don't see that many spiders up here like in the Southern US. I do have a really big spider plant though

Great collection. My only real fear is of spiders. But the pics are fantastic. I much prefer reptiles and amphibians, much more my speed.

Very fine photo work. I would disagree with you though regarding that you think watches are more difficult to Phototgraph. surely the spider moving and the shallow depth of field in macro mode makes spider photography very difficult. But you do it amazingly. 10/10 top of the class.
